Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 (edited) http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=299730 Here is a link to the highlights, the 'incident' happens at about the 3:25 mark of this video...i think. I am usually all for tough suspensions - but this? It looked pretty weak. I would have given Briere a roughing or charging penalty, but 2 games? I just don't see how bad it it there. Does someone have a better video? What do you guys think? Edit - after watching several times, it does indeed look like Briere's elbow comes up. Still, I've seen much worse go un-penalized. Like this: So why does Briere get two games for that, and Cumisky gets nothing for leaving his feet and elbowing Moreau? Carman 387 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 (edited) I'll support a suspension here. I love Briere, but he did jump into that hit. Not quite sure what he was thinking got him way to high for that kind of play. EDIT: the Cumisky hit was all shoulder and a straight up check and didn't leave his feet before the check, much like Kronwall's checks. Not a blindside. Although there isn't a rule on a blindside hit yet, the NHL does tend to enforce rules harder on the blindside hits especially with an elbow. I'll give you the Briere hit warranting a suspension, but take another look at the Cumisky hit, his feet are off the ice when he makes contact with Moreau, and he clearly leans out with his arm/elbow to make contact just as Moreau tried to cut inside. Holmstrom96 347 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 A little late, plus after the goal, and he left his feet. Combine the lateness with the leaving the feet and I can see one or two games.
Guest Four Report post Posted November 24, 2009 A $70,000 fine is BULLs*** for that hit. Two game suspension, maybe, but not 70k.
action jackson 6 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 I don't think the hit was late, for me that are 2 minutes and done but those knee on knee hits should get you suspended for more than 5 games..

I don't think his feet were off the ice. When you are skating backwards and stop to go forward the impact makes the player go up in the air. To me jumping into a check is when you are skating forward and gain speed to hit a player in the head, not skating backward and pivoting to deliver a shoulder check. Also the fact that it wasn't a blindside hit plays a role in my opinion as well.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 I guess playing for a tough team has unpussified him. I bet Hudler would be the same way if he went to Philly. Never thought I'd see Briere laying cheapshots on people.

Carman 387 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 and it was Wilson not Cuminsky, that was clearly shoulder to head, clean hit Yeah, must of just went with the OP's mentioning Cuminsky for some reason. And I agree about the Wilson* hit.
