Carman 387 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 Aren't you the kid who was questioning/criticizing Wings' brass for keeping Howard on this team after only his first 3 starts this year? You even pulled up Howard's stats for the past 3 or 4 years to prove your point. I think you were going all crazy in the "Biron" thread with your failed logic. Jimmy D's comment about lowering expectations was dead on, but we can still hope the Wings would prove him wrong. I believe if this team was 100% healthy, we'd be top 3 in the conference. I'm the person who wanted to trade Howard for Biron. I still stand by that, I feel Biron has some good years left in him and can bridge that gap with Ozzie for the next couple years for Larsson/McCollum to develop. That's not a knock against Howard, I wouldn't waive him or anything like that, and I hope he can prove me wrong. And I feel if this team was healthy we would still be behind Chicago in the regular season. I'm a diehard Wing's fan of course I want to see my team win every game, but I also understand that we aren't going to be winning the conference every year... I still think we are a playoff team, and can do a lot of damage in the playoffs with our experience.

Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 Jimmy D understands the foundation and potential of this team more then you. And can magically predict injuries to this team.
Carman 387 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 And can magically predict injuries to this team. Actually his prediction was based on a healthy team. They are a playoff team 5-8 seed in healthy, and a borderline playoff team with injuries.
Jersey Wing 1,521 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 I don't understand all the sheer panic by some people here. #1, there is NOTHING a fan can do. We're along for the ride. We can't backcheck harder, we can't go to the net harder, we can't clear the critical puck in the third period, we can't call guys up and we can't make trades. The Red Wings know what they're doing. The players and coaches KNOW what the problem is, the front office knows what the problem is. But for a crossbar and another goal we're sitting here saying "Stanley Cup hangover". Again, there is no better model franchise than the Detroit Red Wings. As Paula Deen says I think we as a fanbase are "spawled". The Wings have played deep into the playoffs for so many years running, and playoff hockey sure ain't regular season hockey, father time may be catching up a little. It happens. We all know there has been a lot of turnover on the roster and some talent is missing, but a lot remains. I'm more than willing to give the Wings ANY kind of mulligan they need this season. If it means a #7 or a #3 seed or it means a 10th place finish, as disappointing as that would be, I'm MORE THAN WILLING to give this franchise a break. It's not like it's the Lions and we sit and wonder if they're even trying. It's not like the RichRod situation at Michigan where doubt creeps in that "maybe we made some wrong choices". These are the Detroit Red Wings. They will right the situation and start winning as they always do, or they won't and that's OK too. They've more than earned our trust, forgiveness, and respect. Now, grab a cold one, and sit back and root for YOUR Detroit Red Wings. Sure it might mean we have to root a little harder than in the past, don't be spawled, just root

Guest lnvincible Report post Posted November 28, 2009 IMHO: Leino, Bertuzzi, Lebda and Meech suck big time and need to be traded/sent down. Babcock must pull his head out of his ass and reunite Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Firing McCrimmon would help too. You my friend are the closest thing to a retard. stuck in socal 56 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 ...there is no funk! This is EXACTLY what Jimmy D said we should expect from this bunch of guys. Why is everyone so shocked? This is exactly the point I have been trying to get across to everyone here. This team is not as good as in past years and we have to deal with the subpar year. Stop trying to look for quick fixes and just be a fan and don't complain. None of us have anything in our power to help the Wings. :nonono:

dobbles 252 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 Kenny Holland simply has to make some kind of trade or move before new years, let alone the deadline. With the way the team has played the past few weeks theres no way we can just sit and wait for Mule, Kronner, Filp, Williams and Lilja to come back. I know it's much harder to do this in a "cap era" but Holland has found ways to make magic in the past. My first few moves: 1. Get rid of Leino -- The guy has done absolutly nothing to earn a spot on the top 2 lines. He is lazy and can't make the plays that top forwards need to make. 2. Get a grinder / scorer -- A guy like Rene Bourque would be an amazing pickup for Detroit. He brings goals, grit, and youth. He had a career year last year and is off to another great start again. I know he hurt his ankle but once he gets back, bring him to the D. 3. Put Hank and Pav back together -- Both are having frustrating starts, especially Pav, but this will make the team better in the longrun. Add your own thoughts and ideas....GO WINGS ok, i know its just a suggestion, but why would the flames ever move bourque? he has been huge for them. i think if you have some realistic trade options it would make for a better discussion. but with what you give there as an example, we might as well propose trading for tavares or hedman or something... skyphoenix 153 Report post Posted November 28, 2009 (edited) I love how everyone expects this team to dominate all the time. Technically we are still dominating in puck possession but the puck won't go in the net. I don't see any need to hit the panic button when our biggest problem is that we can't catch a break to save our lives. Well considering our goalies are in the bottom 5-dead last in Save% and GAA, there is an issue there as well.

Yeah, because they face 17 shots and let in 3 goals. We can't stop the other team from shooting at all. Although, it would be a good thing to try.
