RedWings Gone Wild 6 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 So, yahoo has been doing lists of the top ten "insert whatever" of the past decade for pretty much every sport. Now, they are doing the tops of the tops and comparing every sport out there. We now have the chance to vote for who we think is the best athlete, team, game, etc.. of the decade, regardless of the sport. The Wings are represented twice. They are nominated for the best team of the decade (01-02) and Lidstrom is nominated for best player of the decade (some stiff competition with guys like Zidane, Phelps, etc... on the list). So, if you guys have any interest in seeing the Wings represented amongst the decades best, below are the links... vote! Team of the decade Player of the decade Also, the Pens beating the Wings in game 5 from the year before last is an option for best game of the decade... yeah, even tho they didn't win the series. If you want to vote for that, the link follows. Game of the decade
Williams29fan 6 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 Player of the decade is definitely a close one, with Micheal Phelps, Lids, Tiger Woods, and Tim Tebow.
Jake Ryan 1 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 Player of the decade is definitely a close one, with Micheal Phelps, Lids, Tiger Woods, and Tim Tebow. Comparing Nick Lidstrom to Tiger Woods is silly. Tiger is an iconic figure and the greatest golfer of all time. Lidstrom is ONE OF the best defensemen to ever play hockey, but not by far and away the best. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 Oh look, the 2003 Pass Interference Bowl. How is that better than the '06 Rose Bowl or '07 Fiesta Bowl? Terrible job, Yahoo.
MotorCityMadness 388 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 Im surprised that they did not include the Wings - Avs 2002 series in there since they had the Diamondbacks 2001 series win over the Yankees listed
dropkickshanahans 463 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 This list is tough. I voted the Patriots, but Texas and Connecticut's campaigns are not far behind.

It's pretty difficult to put Lidstrom above a lot of the guys on that list, but I do think the 01-02 squad has some legitimacy as tops of the decade.. Consider the number of hall of famers on the squad, how many tops in hockey history were on the team (some of the top Dmen all time, one of the game's greatest goalies ever, the game's greatest captain, 3 teammates from it inducted into the HOF in one year, etc etc etc). Zohan Franzen 18 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 I voted for Roger Federer !!! He won 15 Grand Slam single titles (broke Pete Sampras´record) and appeared in 21 finals, all in this decade. Easy choice for me.

wingnut40 176 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 Question: Did you decide to post those categories just because the Wings were involved, or were those the only categories and the Wings just happened to be included in all of them?
Theophany 110 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 QFT No one has dominated their respective sport more than that guy has this past decade. Not only that, he's as humble and respectful as they come. Very much like Lids. Uh, what? Tiger Woods ring any bells? Team of the decade is pretty easy; '02 Red Wings were ridiculous. Looking at that team's roster looks like a who's-who of who you'd have wanted on your fantasy team at the time. Athlete is a bit harder; Phelps' record medal count is incredibly hard to replicate, and is harder to judge because the Olympics only happen every 4 years. Nick Lidstrom is a viable choice because he's able to be mentioned in the same breath as Orr and other defense greats. Tiger Woods is my choice though, because of his complete domination of the PGA. It's not even close. Not only was he favored to make the cut in every single tournament he entered, not to mention favored to WIN. Oh, and he's also the first billionaire athlete.
