Chelios turned down NHL offer to stay in AHL

I saw Cheli play a few weeks ago, and he wasn't a stand-out on the ice even in a sloppy game. At this point any team that would call him up would obviously be looking to take advantage of his positioning and general hockey smarts rather than stand out skills though [so says Capt. Obvious]. His slapper is as brutal as ever! Kronner's brother Staffan was playing against him for Abbotsford after having been sent down from Calgary. He is one big gangly fella.

No matter what you think about Chelios, that is a decision you must admire and respect. It's pure love for the game.

I'm with you there. It's not often that someone finds something they love and can do for a living. More power to him.

BTW, I was kidding above when I hinted at the Wings. Hope you all knew that.

I have hated Cheli since he was in Montreal. Only now am I beginning to appreciate him. He isn't the gutless cheapshotter he was when he was young, he isn't the slow, selfish-penalty-taking-machine he was in Detroit, he's just a guy playing for love the game.

I hope he stays in the AHL, I'm looking forward to seeing him play in Milwaukee Feb 27th. Really I'm just going to see DKM after the game, but Cheli will be a nice bonus.
