Aaron Ward on waivers

That may not be a sure bet.

Come on... No matter how bad of a season he is currently having there is no way anyone should say he'd be nearly as bad as Ledba or Meech. Ward is good, and never a defensive liability. I think he'd be a good temporary replacement for Lilja. Considering he's having a bad season with Boston, a new environment like the same one he won 2 cups with might give him that nostalgic feeling which could be good. We can't expect a bunch of points from him, he's never been that kind of player, but I think picking him up would be beneficial in other areas including the PK.

I vote YES for Ward.

ok, semantics really then - that would still be considered a buyout per the new CBA, it just isn't executed in the lump sum payout...

I should rephrase; I used the term "unconditional waivers" which sort of confuses things. A team can designate a player for unconditional release, at which point the player must be offered on waivers to all other teams. If no team claims him, the team may then terminate his contract. I am not certain whether players in this situation must be paid, but it is definitely an option for teams who need to clear up a lot of cap space from a certain player or two, and the contracts make the players basically impossible to trade.

Aaron Ward would have to be a two-way contract to be any use to the Wings.

On July 24, 2009, the Carolina Hurricanes re-acquired defenceman Aaron Ward from the Boston Bruins in exchange for Patrick Eaves and a 4th-round draft pick in 2010. Ward has previously played with the club when they won the Stanley Cup back in 2006.

If you are thinking "two-way contracts mean they can go back and forth from the minors without waivers" you are sadly mistaken. One-way or two-way deals only determine a player's minor league paycheck.

I'd love to see ward back in a Wings uniform :deal:

Wow, gee, that was only TWELVE years ago! I'm sure he's exactly of the same capability as he was back then!

Ward Stays, Leighton Off To Philly

by Paul on 12/15/09 at 12:10 PM ET

via the CarolinaHurricanes Twitter,

Aaron Ward has cleared waivers, but Michael Leighton has been claimed by Philadelphia.

Again?

Too bad, it looks like we won't be signing him. Kinda disappointed, I would have liked to see him back here.
