I know it's too early to say Howard will be a #1 but when (and if) he continues to play like this, it's hard not to cheer him on to be Detroit's #1 future goalie. And if Osgood struggles in the playoffs, I won't shed a tear to see Howard thrown in. I think the kid is mentally tuff and is only getting better each game.

That said, Wings have a nice stock pile of good (expecting) goaltenders in Larsson and McCollum. If Howard continues on being this good this year and next year, would it be worth trading one of our top-end goaltending prospects?

I don't know, but I think Larsson and McCollum will become #1's in the NHL and after Ozzie's contracts up, Wings are going to have too many goalies.

What do you think?

well you know at least with Howard you won't have the fans whine about how great the team is and its easy to be the goalie in front of an amazing team... Wings were far from amazing this season and Howard held up pretty nicely, so let's hope for lack of future whining

Maybe if he gets some starts against quality teams. That is not likely to happen as I assume that Osgood will get most, if not all, the top 10 starts while Howard will play against the rest of the NHL.

Yeah I hear that the rest of the NHL sucks.

Yeah I guess we can consider the second worst team in the conference and the best team in the conference the same level, right?

How could we get shut out by Chicago when we were able to beat the Jackets 9-1 and 2-1 tonight?! What is with these guys!!?

Coming into this season the two players by far I felt held the most potential of completely crashing and burning were Howard and Bertuzzi, and both of them are starting to make me eat crow.

Coming into this season the two players by far I felt held the most potential of breaking out bigwere Filpulla and Leino, and both so far have been complete disappointments (for different reasons, of course)

It's like I'm watching the Bizarro Red Wings.

Is it just me, or does Filppula seem MUCH bigger and stronger than Datsyuk and Zetterberg? Seems like he always wins the one on ones in the corners and is constantly knocking guys off the puck.

Filpulla has gotten much bigger since his rookie year. It's a shame that he broke his wrist or he would probably be looking much stronger and be a real force out there right now.

Before his injury, He was playing much more physical than previous seasons. And it looks like he picked up right where he left off.

You're right! f*** Howard! He didn't score a single goal! How can we win games when our goalie doesn't score!

Seriously though, only allowing one goal through the majority of the game against Chicago is an accomplishment in itself, and only allowing 3 is a damn good effort from a rookie. It's not his fault (nor Osgood's) that we lost the games against Chicago. Their defense and goaltending killed us.
