zettie85 106 Report post Posted December 31, 2009 Sure he isn't what many would call a great defensive player, but I think his powerplay and overall offensive abilities speak numbers. He would be very key on the first PP unit and when they're in need for an offensive boost. I mean leading all defense in points for the past 2 years should speak some volumes, and personally I think he is better than Boyle offensively, and probably equal to Boyle defensively. It's not like he would be on the team as a top 4 d-man, but he would be heavily relied on and effective. How many of his points come off the stick of Ovechkin. Boyle is way better defensively. Doughty is amazing for his age and his team is playing well as a whole and it has a lot to do with his performance each night. Green could leave the Caps and it wouldn't hurt the team that much. I would take Doughty and Boyle over Green in any situation because they are more then 1 dimensional hockey players.
Marty Barry 230 Report post Posted December 31, 2009 I wish the USA team had a Bowman trained Stevie Y!
swedishconnection 36 Report post Posted December 31, 2009 Many teams rotate the 'A'. Example: Detroit. Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Draper. Yeah I know we do, but I was not aware that they rotated during the international competition. I thought it meant there may have been a different rule whereby they could ice 3 "A"s at the same time on the same play, for instance.
Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted January 22, 2010 Anyone else starting to feel like Martin St. Louis should be on this team? Take a look at his stats compared to Bergeron and Morrow's St. Louis GP G A PTS +/- 50 14 32 55 -6 Bergeron GP G A PTS 43 12 20 32 3 Morrow GP G A PTS 50 10 20 30 -4 Not to mention St. Louis has 32 points in 30 international games for Team Canada. More games and more points with a higher points per game average than Bergeron or Morrow.... So what do you think? Size/toughness issue? Seems to me St. Louis has done fine at every international competition and at the NHL level despite his size. I don't normally question my man Steve, but did Kevin Lowe f*** with his mind on this one or what?
adubs 8 Report post Posted January 22, 2010 Brad Richards is second only to Crosby for belonging on Team Canada but what can you do. Iginla and Heatley are slow, and Getzlaf won't be seen moving his feet. Scott Niedermayer has been absolutely terrible this year. I think the U.S. is going to win it due to outworking the Canadians. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 22, 2010 I think Babcock should be coaching team Canada and not team Sweden. After all, he's more familiar with their players. I just hope he doesn't send any of his guys out there to slash Datsyuk or Zetterberg in the leg in the decisive game.
