DirecTV Discounts due to Versus

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I just called DirecTV hoping to pull a discount out of them like many people have but even after like 15 mins on the phone there was no mention of discounts or anything..

Is anyone still getting discounts due to the Versus issue? Did you do anything inparticular??? Thx!!

I called up back in October, telling them I was going to be switching to another carrier. They asked why. I told them it was the vs thing. They ended up offering me a full refund of 160 or so dollars that I payed in to Center Ice. The offer was good with the only stipulation of not cancelling Directv in the next 60 days.

Isn't versus included with comcast?

Like Center Ice said above me. Comcast owns versus. And to add to it, Comcast is the biggest competitor, that Directv has.

Is there any news on whether this issue will be resolved come playoff time? Or for that matter, if they're trying to resolve it?

Because if not, then a lot more fans are going to need those internet streams.

I am getting ready to walk here pretty quick. I have been thinking Dish network. The problem with Dish, is that there is word that they are up for negotiations with Comcast soon as well. So that may be a problem to come for them too. Comcast is not offered in my market.

I wonder how much of a price increase Versus/Comcast want from DTV. My parents switched to DirecTv pretty much a month before they stopped showing Versus, which really blows. I really hope they get something in place before the playoffs.

DirecTV is more expensive than cable depending on you selected viewing package. You also will pay a bit more for your cable since you wouldn't be getting budled services from Comcast.

UPDATE: I posted the original topic while I was still on the phone with DirecTV and ended up being on the phone with them for over an hour. Here is what I was told discount-wise.

If you have been with DirecTV for a year or more then they have more options as far as discounts, etc..

Me being with them for less than a year, I was able to pull out 3 months free HD Extra package (like 6 channels...mostly useless though) and 1 month free of Shotime channels 537-545 including I think 5 of them in HD.

The gentleman I spoke to was very nice and sounded really sorry for the experience because I told them that I feel that their policy of the 'if uv been with us for at least a year' thing is completely backwards in my situation.

I switched to them just prior to the hockey season (and AFTER they discontinued showing Versus) and told them that I was switching for the simple reason of getting NHL Center Ice in HD as opposed to standard def (Time Warner Cable). The channel guide online had Versus listed and so did the channel guides that the installation technician gave me. With all of that being the case, I have every right to assume that I would get a major network such as Versus. Do they really expect me to sit them down and go through all 600+ channels one by one and ask if they still provide those networks? I felt pretty cheezed.

Once the guy really felt my side of the argument he gave me the address of the "office of the president" who I should get a reply from in 10-14 days. Let me know if anyone wants the address.

I told him that I'm not willing to pay the extra $20-$30 a month all the way to the playoffs then STILL have to pay my $400 early cancellation fee to switch back to cable. But if wasn't paying so much extra for the next few months then I'd be willing to wait it out until around playoff time to pay the 400 bucks to switch back. That's when he gave me the address.

I'd feel even more robbed if I paid them almost the $100 extra over the next 3 months (as opposed to cable) and THEN paid the $400 early cancellation fee ALL because of their omission of important information (malicious intent or not)!

FWIW, the whole being a customer year thing is bubkus IMO. i called and threatened to leave less than 2 months after becoming a customer and they immediately gave me the free CI offer. a buddy of mine was also a new customer and got CI half off.

i am not sure if they got wise to people using the excuse, but early on, they gave out the freebies to anyone and everyone. did you talk to the cancellation department? the key to getting the free stuff is to not waste time with the regular customer service reps. they can't give out much of anything. once you get the cancellation deptartment they have the authority to offer you great deals to get you to stay.
