Vancouver's Burrows blasts Ref for make up calls

While that interference call was terrible, I also forgot that Burrows pulled Duncan Keith's hair (1:20) in a fight. That discredits him in my book.

Campbell is a pandering joke. If they actually fined/suspended people for a history of diving... Crosby would only play about 4 games a season. It gets harder and harder to support this league.

I'm so tired of these excuses and outright lies by the league management. It is pathetic and cowardly and speaks volumes about the intentions of this league.

Glenn Healy raised the good questions of why Burrows was fined $2500, when apparently in the CBA the max fine for that is $1000. And the money isn't going to the usual emergency fund that it normally does with these fines.

In related news, Gary Bettman hosted a banquet in Auger's honor, at no expense to anyone.

Details of this are coming in: it was in Bettman's limousine, along with Auger and Bryan Lewis (the man who hired Auger). It was drive-thru and not sit-down fancy. And, all items were off the new "Dollar Menu".

Obviously it was McDonalds. Gary doesn't appreciate Wendy's slogan of "We don't cut corners."

New information surfaced this weekend that puts in question the integrity of the NHL's investigation into the Stephane Auger-Alex Burrows affair.

League disciplinarian Colin Campbell concluded a short investigation last week by siding with Auger over the question of did the referee threaten Burrows before Monday's game against Nashville.

Campbell said he ruled in Auger's favour partly because there was no third-party corroboration. But, it's been revealed, there was evidence the NHL dismissed and it supported Burrows' recollection of events.

A key question people have been asking regarding the incident is that if Auger did tell Burrows during a pre-game chat caught on video that he was going to get him, why didn't Burrows tell anyone?

He did. Burrows skated to the bench and relayed his conversation with Auger to Vancouver Canucks backup goalie Andrew Raycroft right after it happened, according to Raycroft.

"It was right before the anthem and he told me what [Auger] had said to him and then he said, 'It's going to be a long night tonight,'" Raycroft said. "At the time, I thought it was interesting. But I didn't think about it until everything started happening [in the third period]. You just don't expect it.

"Maybe it's a coincidence. But he told me."

Raycroft said he believed "everyone" was aware of the conversation he had with Burrows. But no one from the NHL contacted him.

The suggestion is the league wanted to dismiss the issue as quickly as possible.

What stinks even more about this is that Campbell said there was no third-party corroboration. There indeed is, and yes it may be biased but it should be investigated. Regarding Campbell's contention that because Raycroft is a Canuck it's biased info, then who could Burrows have talked to who wasn't biased? A Nashville Predator?

There's also the matter of Auger apparently giving Burrows a smart-ass wink after the interference call that was caught on video.

There is no third party corroboration just hearsay from a third party, completely different beasts. One means someone else was there and heard what Auger said, the other means Burrows told someone what He heard!.

This is no more conclusive than before.

He needs one of the Sedins to step up about the second period incident where apparently when he went out to skate with "Daniel and Hank to keep our legs fresh, he (Auger) told me to get back on the bench." (That was as close to the quote as I could remember.

If one of the Sedins stepped up and said they heard the words come out of Auger's pie hole then the league would have to at least re-look at it!

I'm not going to get into a semantics argument about my use of the word "corroborate", but yes I agree the corroboration was hearsay. It was also apparently something Campbell would have taken into consideration had it not come from a Canuck, which is ridiculous.

Campell said to Ron McLean that players are not actually allowed to skate around the ice on TV timeouts but that the rule is very loosely enforced. However, that again adds a little more to an ever-strengthening circumstantial case (or whatever you want to call this fiasco).

From Vancouver Sun :

The father of Vancouver Canuck winger Alex Burrows says his son was the victim of "verbal assassination" by the CBC's Ron MacLean in a weekend Hockey Night in Canada segment.

Rodney Burrows also said Monday his wife Carol, a high school principal in the Montreal area, has written a letter of complaint to the CBC regarding MacLean's story.

Rodney Burrows did not see the segment live, but viewed it later on You Tube. He was appalled by what he saw.

"I thought it was a verbal assassination," he said in a telephone interview from his Montreal home. "There was no journalistic balance whatsoever. It was just a verbal assassination. There was no chance for Alex to defend himself."
