mmamolo 287 Report post Posted January 14, 2010 I wanted to get ppl's thoughts on Dan Hamhuis. As he is set to become a UFA this summer and it apepars Nashville may not want to give him the money he wants would ppl welcome him to Detroit? If Lidstrom reitres? If Lidstrom returns? If yes, for how much? term of contract?
stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted January 14, 2010 just another role player with a career average around 25 pts - not what we need... I'd pass...
rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted January 14, 2010 He'd certainly fit in here in Detroit. If Lidstrom retires, I think they need to replace him with TWO players. For instance, Hamhuis and Exelby. Kronwall - Stuart Hamhuis - Rafalski Ericsson - Exelby Kindl If Lidstrom stays then I see cap space being thrown at a top six winger.

mmamolo 287 Report post Posted January 14, 2010 Living in Toronto I have to say Exelby is that last thing we need. He takes bad penalties, turns the puck over, and isn't even that good at what he does. I would never want him on our team. That being said, whoever mentioned that Hamhuis will probably get more money than he's worth, given the roster spot he would fill on the Wings, makes a lot of sense
Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2010 I thought Kindl has to play in the NHL next year or we'll lose him?
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted January 14, 2010 Hamhuis for no more than 4 years, $3.25m cap hit would not be a bad move. He's a good two-way defenseman; he's Nashville's top penalty killer, and he is almost as productive offensively even-strength as Suter and Weber (Suter 58, Weber 57, Hamhuis 48) over the past three seasons and basically equal this season (Weber 15, Hamhuis 12, Suter 10) so it's not like he's offensively incapable. His lack of PP time is the primary factor in his low point totals. Paul Martin, Dan Hamhuis, Anton Volchenkov, Lukas Krajicek, and Jordan Leopold are the top five UFA defensemen I would look at. T-Ruff 47 Report post Posted January 14, 2010 I'd love to see Hamhuis here, but I'd be worried about the price he will command.

So we replace one of the top offensive D-men in the league with a D-man who has borderline offensive talent (Hamhuis) and a D-man who has no offensive upside whatsoever (Exelby)? If Lidstrom retires, no matter who we get to take his place it will be a down grade. We are talking about replacing the best defenceman of the modern game. Not easy shoes to fill.
