Jack Edwards...seriously, is anybody worse?

This is the problem with lots of announcers today Goaliemanpat, they want the fans to notice them and not the play, they are trying to sell themselves as much as the game.

A good play by play guy to me gets wound up once and a while (See Emerick's Marty Broduer vs the World call), but let the color guy do the emotional calls, the play by play guy should be just that, tell me what is happening from play to play!

I don't think that San Jose's are that bad. The unbearable to listen to either because of their voice or because they're just not that hockey smart include Pittsburgh, Columbus, Minnesota, and Colorado. The Avs could score an empty net goal in the pre season, and you'd think they just won overtime of Game 7.

Nothing will ever come nearly close to how bad the Avs announcer calling fights used to be. He would lose his damn mind. "Another right, another right, another right, uppercut, another right, left, uppercut, super combo, ultra combo, finish him, FATALITY!" when the fight was two punches and takedown.

The hatred of Jack Edwards spreads far beyond the shores of North America. Over here in Europe, the ESPN channel always seems to show the same teams (Boston, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Montreal etc)... so I've been loathing the daft bastard for some time. His voice, tone, and ridiculous bias makes me want to punch him in the mouth.

There now back to the original question, no, there is no one worse than Jack Edwards in the history of the game (shouldn't say that but I have a hard time imaging worse).

I have never heard an announcer wet himself over the most routine mundane plays ever. This guy makes a goalie stopping a clearing attempt (from 200 feet away) sound like he just made the greatest save in the world, but it wasn't it was just a tribute to the greatest save in the world.

Not as pissed but I have vested interest in this scenario. But when and why do May and Z end up on the same line?

But let me use a scenario a little closer to reality, as in something that actually happened.

Markov levels Stoll, as Dats is on his way to score, an Oiler starts a fight with Markov (like happened to Vancouver earlier) and Dats never scores.

Better yet let me give you a scenario where I believe it was carried out correctly, yet another Wings scenario. Lappy hits Lids clean, yet actually does injure the man. (It is very important to note at this point in time we are no longer dealing with ifs/maybes/could have been/fairies/leprechauns or any other mythical way a hockey player "potentially" could have been hurt, I am talking about the 'C' getting injured for realz!)

Shifts later, not the second after the hit, the hero of LGW's Grit Crew (and an all around good guy for the record) Aaron Downey fights Lappy. Not because some one some day may get hurt if lappy kept hitting that way. NO because he hurt the 'C'.

The game is being broken up for a clean hit? Seriously, Zetta got hurt already on a clean hit this year, where was the upheaval for no retribution! GRRRRRRRR IZ WANT MYZ RETALIATIONZ!!!!!!!111111oneoneomg

If this was the case every time Krowall or Stuart leveled Umberger the Wings games would be near impossible to watch. (sure that was an exaggeration!)

That most painful of basic hits wouldn't put Rick DiPietro on a stretcher, much less Zetterberg. The only reason that Kopitar went down so easily is because, as is mostly the case, he wasn't paying attention and had his head down.

The guy on Sportsnet who does Flames games is worse. Not by much, but man, Kiprusoff does ANYTHING and you'd think he just parted the goddamn seas. Every. Single. Game. He's about on Edwards level when it comes to the Flames but his man-boner for Kiprusoff sends him over the top. I've heard him praise him after a goal on more than one occasion.

It's become a running joke around here. He is the biggest homer I've ever heard. Worse than Jeanette, worse than anyone at Versus, worse than Cherry or Macguire when gushing about gritty Canadians. He's infuriatingly biased and doesn't even try to hide it.

And his voice is incredibly annoying too.

randy hahn is alright...he is more like a B-... he doesn't show the ridiculous bias that ******* drew remenda does. i hate that f***** real bad. i mostly hear randy and drew because i live in the bay area, thank the jesus marion joseph that i don't have to hear that giant ass jack edwards...actually just for laughs i would be into it!

I remember a game where Kipper had stopped 4 shots and it was something like 11 minutes into the period and before they went to the break he blurted out in his most dramatic hero voice "Kipper has been peppered, and he's.....STOPPED. THEM. ALL"
