stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted February 8, 2010 ok... granted, it looked odd in his first game with TOR with a giant Duck on his helmet and black and gold pads... and even that, I thought was odd with 3 days before a start to get it taken care of, but he had over a week by his start this past Sat... and still a Duck - now, I know there are NONE more superstitious than goalies and he is riding a 120 min shutout streak with TOR, but come on... you don't have to get new gear, just repaint/reupholster it... I'll bet he wears it next start to until the streak ends... just looks SOOOO odd...
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted February 8, 2010 Goalies are a superstitious bunch. He won't change it until he gives up a goal (tonight) or loses (again, likely tonight).

I don't think there is a combination that could be weirder in the NHL - to go to such a storied franchise as TOR wearing a cartoon duck in such contrasting colors... hurts my eyes
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted February 8, 2010 (edited) Johan Hedberg when he was with Pittsubrgh had his minor league helmet all throughout the playoffs - it was blue/powder blue when the Pitt jerseys were obviously not. Give it time, he'll get it changed. Edited February 8, 2010 by SouthernWingsFan
Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted February 8, 2010 Goalies most often go for a while with their old mask while a new one is made. Remember when Osgood played for the Islanders? It took him about 2 months into the season to get new pads as well as a new mask. The Islanders were well into November and Ozzie was still wearing the red pads/mask. I think a lot of Ozzie's deal was that he was so shocked by the deal and dejected... I think he still wanted to pretend he was a Wing, haha Giguere on the other hand was down right jubilant to go to TOR I just think if nothing else, get the current helmet sandblasted and wear it white until the stencil is ready and get the helmet painted on an off day... Swayze 81 Report post Posted February 8, 2010 (edited) Remember when Bryzgalov first when to the Coyotes? He played for a couple weeks in his Black and Orange ducks pads and White helmet, so weird. Giguere reminded me of that. Edited February 8, 2010 by Swayze
hokeychik22 17 Report post Posted February 8, 2010 (edited) i love ozzie's bucket helmet. i like giguere's mask, but i do agree it looks out of place with the white and blue maple leaf. Edited February 9, 2010 by hokeychik22
stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted February 8, 2010 i love ozzie's bucket helmet. i like giguere's mask, but i do agree it looks out of place with the white ad blue mapleaf. I think that's part of what stands out so bad to me, it's not just the different team colors/logo... it's the fact that it's the Maple Leafs - one of the most storied franchises in the NHL and he's wearing a cartoon Duck, arguably, the most ridiculous team name/logo/roots in the NHL (it was a franchise started by Disney to cross promote a movie basically!) on his cage Just seems like complete contrasts to me... even worse than just another teams colors/logo, because of the teams/colors involved
T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted February 8, 2010 Have you guys ever tried to get any custom design and paintwork done? You don't just order it off the internet and it shows up 2 days later. Even if you're a multi millioniare, these things take time. Also, I think it's kinda cool tha he's still wearing the Duck hat; it just a huge reminder to the Ducks, kinda saying, "Ha look at me now, 2 shutouts in a row!" Guest ZetterbergFourty Report post Posted February 8, 2010 The Leafs are a real mickey mouse team, Jiggy might as well keep wearing the Ducks mask. He'll likely change it though when San Jose demolishes the Leafs tonight.
GSBrooks13 204 Report post Posted February 8, 2010 Just read this on TSN and it reminded me of this thread even though its about Toskala. Former Maple Leafs goaltender Vesa Toskala, who was traded to the Anaheim Ducks on January 31, took a little parting shot at his old team, according to the Toronto Star. Toskala, whose mask is still adorned with the colours of the Maple Leafs, was asked when he would be replacing the paint job to reflect his new team's motif. "Hopefully soon, so I can wash that blue and white out of my gear," Toskala said, according to the Star.
Guest ZetterbergFourty Report post Posted February 8, 2010 Just read this on TSN and it reminded me of this thread even though its about Toskala. Haha. That sounds like something a superstar goalie being dumped off would say. Shut up Toskala, you're not a superstar goalie.
