because of the length... you don't want NO outs for that long of a contract...

Why not? If you put that much faith into signing them to those ridiculously long deals then why not just throw a NTC at them too?

For who, though? San Jose won't be selling.

San Jose has been rumoured to be wanting to change things up. The scouts were there mostly for San Jose. Plus, you have the advance scouts who scout upcoming opponents. Just because scouts are at a game, it doesn't mean something big is about to happen.

I'm always amazed that Z and the Mule aren't on that list... heck we gave Cleary, Draper and Stuart NTC's. Why not hand them out to everyone?

40 and 93 may not have NTCs probably because they have decade-long contracts. unlikely they will ever be moved, or will want to, barring any unforeseen and crazy circumstances.

all those rumors about Lecavalier to Montreal (or even to the Rangers) keep being dismissed by the Lightning and Vinny himself... I can't see any time trading for him with that crazy contract. I guess maybe the only way a player with a long-term contract like that would be a "dollar for dollar" swap, approximately. Like trading Ovechkin for Hossa (I know it's unlikely, but that could probably happen... as they have similar-esque contracts.

Well, guess that was all about much of nothing!!

And you'd think that when 1/3 of the NHL's Teams' Scouts show up to a game it's actually for something!!

I guess it depends for whom Filppula is traded for?

As I've posted in another thread - I get the impression he's about as good as he's gonna get (right now he would be on pace for 51 points if he were to play all 82 games this season) - unless of course we put a gunslinger on his wing that'll help him ratchet up assists, but that probably won't happen.

WEISS!!

I'm thinking if it is a Detroit deal, it's going to be a minor deal, and Holland has been shopping around Lebda to them looking for the best deal. Despite his flaws and the fact he should not be seeing ice in Detroit, he'd be top-six on every team listed above as having a scout.

The only other logical player teams would be looking at who might be traded is Filppula, and even then Lebda would probably be included as the younger, cheaper, more versatile Meech has outplayed him in the same role, and soon we won't have room for both.

If Flip were to be traded in a package with Lebda to ultimately clear up space for Lilja, given that May has already been waived, the Wings would be looking at a scoring winger with a salary likely in the $2m range as well as a pick or two, and then recall Abdelkader.

Matthew Lombardi? Rene Bourque? Scottie Upshall? I don't know their availability, and neither Phoenix nor Calgary were listed in the title, but those three are all solid scorers in the $2m range who are close to .6 PPG, have just shy of 20 goals this year, and are FAs at the end of the year, with Upshall as a RFA. Make a deal, something like Flip/Lebda to Phoenix for Upshall/Lombardi and a first. That could lead to lines like:

Franzen/Zetterberg/Cleary

Lombardi(Upshall)/Datsyuk/Bertuzzi

Miller/Abdelkader/Williams

Draper/Helm/Eaves

Maltby

Lidstrom/Lilja

Kronwall/Ericsson

Meech/Stuart

Janik

Howard

Osgood

Good call eva, all those ~.65 ppg rentals would be much better than the ~.65 ppg forward we have now who still has a contract with us for 3 more years.

Oh but wait, that would make room in the top 6 for Hudler if he comes back next year right?

I'd rather have those ~.65 ppg rentals and shed the 3 million ~.65 ppg forward to make a serious bid for Kovy assuming Lidstrom either retires or takes a nice, hometown discount.

I was sitting next to nearly all of them right by the Press box. It was packed with many hockey faces looking on with purpose.

I remember looking back at them after Meech missed that wide open net, and a few of them looked disapointed, and one of them in a suit made a note. I remember because I was telling my friend that it was likely that Lebda or Meech or someone was playing their last game.

93 has a NTC for the first 5 years of his contract.

Looked around, don't know if you guys follow Florida:

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/flapanthers/

Apparently Florida is ready for a fire sale and has been for a while.

EDIT: Yeah, those are playoff teams mostly...so they're looking for a veteran to add experience to their roster...I would venture Rafalski, but I wonder if he'd bail out on the team at this point just because they're struggling. I don't see Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, Lidstrom or Kronwall going.

Even though I love the potential that Nathan Horton has as a big strong power forward of all the FLorida players I think I'd like Stephen Weiss in Detroit the most. He's 26, locked up for another 3 seasons at $3.1M and shoudl be just shy of a point per game guy. Granted, he's not exactly a goal machine but I think he could do wonders in Detroit.

Obviously it won't be happening (bc of cap, Lilja and any other number of reasons) but for any combinations of Williams, Lebda, Meech, or whatever would be rad.

nothing big is going to happen do'nt get your hopes up

Agreed. Cap-wise it doesnt make sense plus after all the injuries it doesnt make sense to throw in the towel on ppl after we've waited all this time. That being said, it's still interesting to consider possibilities when players become available. Besides, we have seen splashes come out of left field before.
