Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted February 13, 2010 This could be great. Was hoping lebda would be gone. We can't afford to lose the defensive depth right now. Rest assured Lebda won't be a Red Wing in October.
j.hoop 64 Report post Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) I fail to see the logic in this. We all seem to be making Lilja out to be our savior on Defense. He's not a good defenseman, and the only place he shines is on the PK. Take that last sentence and replace d-man with forward, and you've got Maltby. Why trade one sub-par player whoms decent on the PKer for another? it seems you are forgetting that towards the end of last year lilja had cleaned up his game and brought a tasty skill to the lineup called shotblocking that no one aside from eaves and miller seem to know about, and also you seem to be forgetting someone named brett ledba. InKennyWeTrust 126 Report post Posted February 13, 2010 much as i want lebda gone, we can still get a pick for him. sure, its probably a guitar pick, but its still better than nothin' With how often they get lost, you can never have enough.
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) But he's an UFA after this season and won't get a new contract.. so.. bye bye maltby don't let the door hit ya. I fail to see how that relates to my post. Him returning for the playoffs this year does not necessitate him signing a new contract. GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted February 13, 2010 I really don't care for this move. Maltby was quite good against San Jose and has been solid overall this season, especially on the PK. Just waive Lebda for goodness sake. I thought Holland said he didn't want to carry eight defensemen anyways. Who is the extra forward with May and Maltby gone? Meech? Is that the smartest move with all of the constant injuries at forward? We really do not need Lebda or Meech, let alone both of them with Lilja coming back. Waive Lebda, keep Maltby around. What higher level of pathetic does Lebda have to reach before the Red Wings finally cut ties? What good is having depth on defense when the players can't play defense? Call up Janik if that's the case.
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted February 13, 2010 But he's an UFA after this season and won't get a new contract.. so.. bye bye maltby don't let the door hit ya. Who cares? So is Lebda -- who has been badly outplayed by Maltby this season.

GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) So if he has surgery the sharks game was his last in a wings jersey. I understand that part. It doesn't justify Lebda still being on the team. Maltby has filled his role just fine. Edited February 13, 2010 by GoWings1905
Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted February 13, 2010 (edited) IMO, Maltby should reitre at seasons end. We've got Ritola coming up next year who can do his job. Wouldn't like to see Maltby end his career this way but if he doesn't opt for the surgery then he'll probably end his career as a healthy scratch anyway...
