king_malice 17 Report post Posted February 16, 2010 (edited) Is anyone else excited about this guy being in the wings orginization ?. I actually had the chance to see him play this week and he had a 2 point night 1G 1A at 6'0 171LBS and only 18 he is already a pretty good size. This season he has 13G 24A in 39GP and his numbers are getting better. 06-07 4GP 0PTS 07-08 54GP 24 PTS 08-09 68 GP 55PTS 09-10 39 GP 37 PTS This guy reminded me of a Helm type of player he has speed takes the body when he has the chance and will drop the mits if he has to. This is the kind of player the wings can use, he has hands,a shot and speed. This kid has a deadly shot and can put the puck in the net. I thought he would have been gone by the time the wings got to there pick and i remember McKenzie saying the same thing that this was a steal for the wings. He was ranked to go 1st round 18th overall and we picked him 2nd round 32nd overall. If you haven't seen much of him here is a little clip of highlights. Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted February 16, 2010 For sure, IMO he's pretty close to the complete package. Speed, tenacity, leadership qualities, and very much a sniper. After a slow start to the season he's really started to heat up over the past month or so and he's on track to put up decent numbers. I really love his potential and think he has the highest upside of any Red Wings prospect, including Tatar. Tatar is more of a playmaker, Ferraro a finisher. Glad we got 'em both! Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted February 16, 2010 For me the jury is still out. I know Landon was injured during this season, but his sub PPG pace, for me, is a digression or at least he hasn't progressed in my eyes. This was the season he was suppose to take over, and he hasn't.
newfy 695 Report post Posted February 16, 2010 Hopefully we'll see him at the world juniors next year. He won the fastest skater at the top prospects game I believe and in the future imagine him paired with Helm and maybe someone like Abby. Helm and Landon would dominate with their speed and physicality while Abby is no slow poke and can lay the body as well as finish.
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted February 16, 2010 His goals pace is way down from last year and for a guy in his 3rd full season of junior, I would have expected better stats. I know stats aren't everything, but I would have expected better, certainly nothing to get excited about.
T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted February 16, 2010 His old man is tough as nails and a hard worker. His step mom's not too bad either (Cammi Granato). I'd really like to see him succeed.
Marty Barry 230 Report post Posted February 16, 2010 I wonder if when a player finds out he is going to the Detroit organization, if he's excited, or pissed off that he will be there for so many years? You know how long we let them mature.

Guest zackmorris Report post Posted February 17, 2010 I wonder if when a player finds out he is going to the Detroit organization, if he's excited, or pissed off that he will be there for so many years? You know how long we let them mature. If they're smart they'll be thrilled. We don't often let them develop and mature and then waste them. It's all for good reason and once you get here, you're part of the family and you're taken care of. You might make a little less up front but if you're a hard worker, loyal to us and care about winning and playing the Wings style of hockey, you're going to be looked after for many years to come and won't be tossed aside when your level of play subsides. Of course if he's a kid who is just interested in playing right away, not developing properly and making immediate cash, then he's probably pissed. And not for us. king_malice 17 Report post Posted February 17, 2010 I think he would spend 1 full year in Grand Rapids then the 2nd might get some pre season time with the occasional call-upp depending on how he adapts and 3rd yr i can see him up full time. I think the wings are learning fast they have to get the younger guys up faster then they would like, but i think eventually he will be a top 3 line player depending on if he stays C or gets moved to the wings

He was really, really banged up to start the season, played the first 6 games on basically one knee, only had 3 points during this stretch. He came back, went a few games without a point then missed another game or two due to the same injury. Now that he's starting to feel healthy again his point totals have increased a lot. 6 goals and 17 points in January alone. Also shouldn't forget that his team doesn't score many goals. Jaymister 71 Report post Posted February 18, 2010 I've seen him play twice this year in Chilliwack, where I live and he wasn't noticeable in either game. His numbers this year are ok, but far from exciting.
