wings1110 184 Report post Posted March 3, 2010 I was at the game in which newbury was suspended, he was standing up for a teamate, and a good play on his part.
jollymania 162 Report post Posted March 3, 2010 (edited) Owens is a willing fighter too, fights about once every 10 games he dresses for, that's good for 8 a year if he'd ever play a full season - more than any current Red Wing. Although Owens is small and weak at 180lbs and sucks at fighting, he's willing. That tells me the kid has heart and I hope he makes it. This team could stand to have a guy in the locker room who doesn't turtle everytime a big meanie wants to take it beyond facewashing. It ain't about winning fights - or even fighting per se - it's about showing up and not being afraid of your opposition. I'm still a bit embarassed from when Franzen dove to the ice in such a cowardly fashion that even the linesman was laughing at him. I mean yeah, Ryan Getzlaf would kick the crap out of Fran, but you don't have to be such a disgrace to the sweater on national TV. you are obsessed with fighting, you have no true concept of tough hockey if he really is 180 he isn't going to be much of a physical prescence unless he can skate like helm or can hit like oshie. VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted March 3, 2010 Hm...I think every year we've one the Cup since the '90s we've made a deadline move. Does this count as a real move or are we still cursed?
titanium2 867 Report post Posted March 3, 2010 http://griffinscentral.com/players/jowens.html #7 Jordan Owens Pos: Left Wing D.O.B.: 5/1/86 From: Toronto, Ontario Height: 6' Weight: 180 Shoots: Left Drafted: Undrafted Acquired: Trade with New York Rangers 3/3/10 Plus: One of the fastest skaters in the league... Great work ethic... defensively responsible... A relentless forechecker... Plays a punishing hitting game with a lot of energy... Excellent penalty killer... Good shot selection... Above average passer... Good offensive skills... Minus: Has not been able to consistently provide the offense he seems capable of... Has had some trouble with injuries... Organizational Comments: Rangers Director of Player Personnel Gordie Clark: "He is one of the best two-way players in Hartford, and despite having some injuries this season, which has kept his production down, with Owens' hard work, he looks to have a real chance to make the Rangers next season." What GRC says: Spring 2010: A highly regarded prospect of the New York Rangers, Jordan will bring a good work ethic, some energy, and some some new life to a team that has grown stale. He is a dependable, two way forward with great speed, and should fit in on the 4th line. Role: Two-way Forward Projection: Energy forward

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted March 3, 2010 he sounds alot like helm My thoughts exactly! Except this kid is supposed to have decent hands. So you're trading a bit of speed and forechecking skill for hands.

opatski 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2010 I went to school in Hartford and then moved recently to Charlotte so ive followed the Rangers system for a little while. Now obviously this trade is nothing earth shattering but i like Owens style and think Wings/Griffens fans will too. He's a scrappy, hard worker that puts it all out there. unfortunately at his size there is only so much he can do. Most of you US olympics followers probably were introduced to Ryan Callahan recently. He was awesome in Hartford and when Owens came along he showed a lot of the same characteristics/qualities. obviously hasnt put up the same kind of numbers, but the kid is young and can definitely be an asset to the organization in the future. I know this is a lot of useless ramble, but im excited for Owens opportunity in Detroit's organization

newfy 695 Report post Posted March 3, 2010 I'm as big of a fight fan here as anyone but I'm not sad to see this trade made at all. I think Newbury was an expperiemnt to see if we could get his game to work in the NHL and give us a feisty pest outt here. It didnt happen so Holland traded him for another scrappy guy who has the same amount of fights this year, and is 5 years younger. By the sounds o it this guy could make it to the NHL and I'm sure his fighting ablity will get better, by the look sof his card he's only started fighting recently. Green Wing 26 Report post Posted March 4, 2010 A little clip of Owens. He looks like a Helm-ish player. Fast skater and being as physical as his size allows. He's also still standing at the end of this AHL melee too, which is nice.
newfy 695 Report post Posted March 4, 2010 So does this guy project to be an NHLer or career minor leaguer? Anybody know if we have a decent prospect on our hands all of a sudden?
