mmorland 16 Report post Posted April 28, 2010 Amazing isn’t it? In Jimmy Howard's rookie season he has managed to outplay Osgood for the starter position, took on the pressure of being a Detroit Red Wings goalie, punched Crosby, carried the team when up to 9 roster players were injured, was a key part in achieving a record 19th straight playoff run, is a Calder Trophy candidate, had a great first round including his first ever playoff shutout, and still remains to be pretty humble about all of it. Jimmy, you had me at ‘punched Crosby’. Good to see the Howard slappies are out in full force. It's a stretch to say he outplayed Osgood for the starter position. Osgood was out, Howard played well and Osgood wasn't really given a chance to regain the starting spot. Also, Howard was not "great" in this series. For most of the series his GAA was above 3 and his save percentage below .900. I'm not saying Howard wasn't good, I'm just saying lets all slow down before we make a gold statue of him. 1 Jrat reacted to this
Booster313 138 Report post Posted April 28, 2010 I said before the game, "IF we win, I am going to buy a Jimmy Howard jersey" so congrats Jim, i will be wearing your name on my back. I beat you to it. I bought mine on the Monday before the playoffs began. I wasn't a Howard fan at all prior to this season, and early on he did little to change my mind. However his calming play from November on converted me. Although I believe that if given the opportunity that Ozzie could have played through his slump... it simply wasn't an option for the Wings to gamble with points this season, and by the time that we did have a playoff spot locked up it was simply not long enough to get Ozzie ready. Jimmy had to be the guy, and so far he's done a great job of it. I hope to see him here for a long time to come. 1 Casey reacted to this

Exactly when was Osgood "out"? He flat got outplayed. 4 Pucks, Louisville, thomaz5 and 1 other reacted to this
gowingsgo 3 Report post Posted April 28, 2010 Howard is the future of this team and if this is what the future looks like we are very lucky. He's cool and calm. He did have two bad games in the series but as long as the team in front of him plays sound he stops the puck. He's been getting beat on redirects, power plays and a few breakaways. He has been solid. Trust me when I say this because we used to have major flame wars back in the old days when Cujo was goalie, Howard is the real deal. HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted April 28, 2010 Epic reply to the "Yotes" performance in game 6, "They got lucky". He has the poise and skill to play in this town for years to come. All types of excited and what not. Had nothing else but maybe Jimmy for Calder! No replies from the Osgood slappies after game 6 either.
