jeff48109 474 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 good luck with Joe, who is 'clutch' in the playoffs. easy to be clutch when almost half your goals in the playoffs are on 5 on 3s 1 stevkrause reacted to this

Octopus's Garden 147 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 This elicited almost no emotion from me one way or the other. Pavelski's contract seems perfectly reasonable for what he did last year.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 Should note that Pavelski also got a four-year deal.
HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 Marleau had a good year but SJ can't be happy with just re-signing these guys year in and year out (for that ludicrous amount) when the Pres Trophies are all they have to show. *Meh* whatever good luck with that. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 That's pretty pricey for Marleau... I figured he's get a $6,000,000 deal with a bit more term.
soultrain 43 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 being that the sharkies are my second favorite team, i do like both of these players... however... seven million per.. ...to play with joe thornton.

Opie 308 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 To me pavelski was a no brainer and fair deal considering he what he did last year.
Finnish Wing 110 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 Marleu's contract has probably no clauses involving trading because the cap hit is so high. He could well be moved in a year or two. I don't see why they couldn't still trade him to Toronto, though.
xtrememachine1 795 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 Big Joe is a UFA after next year, so maybe they're thinking, keep Marleau and lose Thornton next year, rather than lose Marleau this year and keep Thornton.
chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 6.9M for Marleau. This is the guy that until this year had a rep for not showing up in the playoffs and was stripped of his captaincy. Now they sign him for 6.9M This is insane. The guy is a career -9 in the playoffs. Is this worse than the Brian Campbell contract?
Hockey13Playa 240 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 I think its funny two years ago the Sharks tried so hard to Trade away Marleau and even stripped his captincy away from him. Now here we are two years later and they signed him for 7 million per year, damn!!!! Good signing for Pavelski though, I wish he was a wing. I like that kid. Now they sign him for 6.9M This is insane. The guy is a career -9 in the playoffs. Is this worse than the Brian Campbell contract? Once upon a time the Sharks were trying to unload him, but that was before Todd McClellan showed up. Since he took over as coach and installed that new system, Marleau has arguably been their best player. I think this signing means that Thornton is either on the trading block or they won't resign him after this year.
HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 Is this worse than the Brian Campbell contract? No contract is worse than that ginger or Huet's. Marleau does a lot more than Campbell but I see the point... Pretty awful on SJ's part. But whatever hate that clown ass organization anyway.
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 Is this worse than the Brian Campbell contract? Not even close. A bit over priced? Yes, but not by much. 2 Original-Six and Uncle Danny reacted to this
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 Good luck San Jose with no goalie now and a defense with no depth beyond Boyle. Maybe the refs can step in and help the situation. 2 HankthaTank and Slave reacted to this

edicius 3,269 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 And in a couple years, we'll see Marleau somewhere like Ottawa, then shortly thereafter, demoted to the minors and then bought out. Cheechoo 2.0.

Frozen-Man 144 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 (edited) 6.9M for Marleau. This is the guy that until this year had a rep for not showing up in the playoffs and was stripped of his captaincy. Now they sign him for 6.9M This is insane. The guy is a career -9 in the playoffs. Is this worse than the Brian Campbell contract? Not even close to as bad as the Campbell contract: A) Marleau is a much better player than Campbell, B) Marleau's contract is for a smaller cap hit, C) Marleau's contract is for 4 years rather than the 8 year albatross that Campbell got. The Sharks overpaid a bit for Marleau but it is not even in the realm of how bad Campbell's contract is. Edited June 24, 2010 by Frozen-Man
Wings4Life19 150 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 so let me get this straight. Pavelski had 4 or 5 really good games in the playoffs and gets 4 mill a year. if I were a sharks fan I would be a bit upset. Imagine if the wings gave franzen the contract he has now right after the Colorado series. I understand that the mule had another year left in his contract and was able to show he was not a one hit wonder. The sharks better hope pavelski works out like they are hoping or this will be a very horrible cap eating contract 2 years from now
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 Marleau is San Jose's best player, and was better than Kovalchuk offensively this season in addition to consistently being one of the league's better defensive forwards. Yes, playing with Thornton may have helped his numbers, but I would argue he was the best player on that line. He's not scoring just because of Thornton; when it happened, the Thornton trade actually caused Marleau's scoring pace to slow down during the 2005-06 season. Marleau has consistently been a very good scorer. 1 Uncle Danny reacted to this
