Marleu's contract has probably no clauses involving trading because the cap hit is so high. He could well be moved in a year or two. I don't see why they couldn't still trade him to Toronto, though.

I think its funny two years ago the Sharks tried so hard to Trade away Marleau and even stripped his captincy away from him. Now here we are two years later and they signed him for 7 million per year, damn!!!! Good signing for Pavelski though, I wish he was a wing. I like that kid.

Once upon a time the Sharks were trying to unload him, but that was before Todd McClellan showed up. Since he took over as coach and installed that new system, Marleau has arguably been their best player. I think this signing means that Thornton is either on the trading block or they won't resign him after this year.

Not even close to as bad as the Campbell contract: A) Marleau is a much better player than Campbell, B) Marleau's contract is for a smaller cap hit, C) Marleau's contract is for 4 years rather than the 8 year albatross that Campbell got. The Sharks overpaid a bit for Marleau but it is not even in the realm of how bad Campbell's contract is.

so let me get this straight. Pavelski had 4 or 5 really good games in the playoffs and gets 4 mill a year. if I were a sharks fan I would be a bit upset. Imagine if the wings gave franzen the contract he has now right after the Colorado series. I understand that the mule had another year left in his contract and was able to show he was not a one hit wonder. The sharks better hope pavelski works out like they are hoping or this will be a very horrible cap eating contract 2 years from now

Marleau is San Jose's best player, and was better than Kovalchuk offensively this season in addition to consistently being one of the league's better defensive forwards. Yes, playing with Thornton may have helped his numbers, but I would argue he was the best player on that line.

He's not scoring just because of Thornton; when it happened, the Thornton trade actually caused Marleau's scoring pace to slow down during the 2005-06 season. Marleau has consistently been a very good scorer.
