CenterIce 83 Report post Posted August 4, 2010 http://capgeek.com/charts.php?Team=15 Signing Abdelkader would put them at 23 players, as well.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted August 4, 2010 All in all I think we're sitting pretty. Abby certainly won't end up with much more than 1M, and that gives us around 0.5M for injuries. I imagine Holland plans on unloading some of our bottom-tier guys also. That should free up some more space to possibly sign a top-6 vet defensman or even trade deadline acquisition for a role-player in February. Yeah, I'm liking our odds this year. Guest Heaten Report post Posted August 4, 2010 I expect Meech, Miller and maybe Ritola to be moved/traded (waived). Wings are sitting pretty indeed
lookalive07 251 Report post Posted August 4, 2010 I'd hate to see Miller go just because I love anyone who wore the Green and White back in their college days, but if it must be done, it must be done. Wings being better is my main interest.
RusDRW 155 Report post Posted August 4, 2010 Trading Meech would give us 2.2. Signing Abs will leave 1.3 to sign a stay-at-home def. Personally, I would like to see what Janik may offer. 6.2 210lbs, fights, stay-at-home... What else you can ask for?

stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted August 5, 2010 (edited) Id trade Meech and pick up Willie Mitchell, solid defender, never won a cup, no offer from Vancouver, would be a great fit on our bottom pairing the odds of him taking that much of a discount are slim to none... Hnidy is probably our best option... In my mind, this is our best possible roster option with what's left and what we have: (lines arbitrary and only setup this way for formatting to save space) Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) Todd Bertuzzi ($1.938m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / Mike Modano ($1.250m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Justin Abdelkader ($0.900m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m) / Patrick Eaves ($0.750m) Kris Draper ($1.583m) / Mattias Ritola ($0.517m) Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Brian Rafalski ($6.000m) Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m) / Shane Hnidy ($0.900m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) Jimmy Howard ($0.717m) / Chris Osgood ($1.417m) ROSTER: 23; CAP:$59.4m; PAYROLL: $58.905m; CAP ROOM: $0.495m; BONUSES: $0.000m Edited August 5, 2010 by stevkrause

Personally, I would like to see what Janik may offer. 6.2 210lbs, fights, stay-at-home... What else you can ask for? Someone who can crack an NHL lineup? Janik didn't look too bad last season, but he was only up for 13 games. He's got good size but is 30 years old and has only ever played a couple full seasons at the NHL. Stranger things have happened, but if he hasn't established himself in the league yet, I don't know that he'll ever be much more than a plug who's not awful when the Wings have a lot of injuries. He was behind Lebda, Meech or Lilja when they were available, so it would hardly be an upgrade. Someone with more experience at the NHL level. McKee, Hnidy, and Exelby are examples. beat to the punch. Basically what F.Michael said.
