It's not after one game. It's after a season of him promising more and not delivering. He has stated last year was a bad one for him, and he's not looking like he improved. I'm not quite sure what can be done (due to his contract), other than pillaging the Griffins.

It's hard to play well when the team in front of you is giving you absolutely no help. This is completely knee jerk. I know what we can do with Ozzie. Let him continue to split time with Howard. What a novel idea. Ozzie has literally played in 2 games this season and people are already calling for his head. Where is the thread blaming the defense for what happened last night? Oh that's right. Ozzie started so anything that happened in the game was his fault. This is completely ridiculous.

I think we are going to break the record for panic threads before January.

At this rate the record will be broken this month.

His play against Chicago reminded me of the 08 Osgood. How quickly we forget.

This is LGW. When Ozzie plays well no one cares. When Ozzie happens to be in net on a night where the defense doesn't show up he needs to retire.

How many trade Howard, send him back to Grand Rapids threads would we be seeing today if he was in net last night instead of Osgood? I'm willing to bet that the number is less than the number of Ozzie threads today.

last game against dallas, i watched the first 2 periods and called it quits after the ultra soft 4th goal. the D put forth about 8% effort on the play and so did ozzy. we can't blame it all on the goalie and defense even if every bad bounce in the first 2 periods ended up in the wings net. the biggest issue may not even be the sub par D and goaltending right now...the forwards need to HIT THE ******* NET! Z is my favorite player, but the reason he has a big 0 for goals this season is simple...hit the net. him and dats have had so many chances and they either hit the post or miss the net. dats stole the puck and turned back and hit the cross bar with his shot and the next steal he got led to a partial breakaway and he got poke checked or something. franzen hits the net, but he's injured now...so Z has to bulge the twine already.

all in all, the game against dallas was a pathetic showing.

You are essentially saying Ozzie is going to repeat his performance of last season. Based on what? The two games he has played this season? Do you see the ridiculousness of this yet? Ozzie plays well against the Hawks and the defense let him down against Dallas and all of a sudden we have a repeat of last season on our hands.

Obviously arguing with crazy is a losing battle.

Just in case there were any doubts left in anyone's mind who the starting goalie for the Red Wings should be, Chris Osgood wiped them all away Thursday night.

In a 4-1 loss in Dallas, Osgood allowed four goals on nine shots in the first two periods.

Last year his excuse for playing poorly late in the season was because coach Mike Babcock wasn't giving him enough playing time to stay sharp. Well, he has started two of Detroit's four games this season.

So what is the excuse now?

Oh, I already hear the Ozzie apologists chirping in: "Those goals weren't his fault. They came through traffic. It went off a skate. There was a turnover right in front of him. The defense let him down."

Wake up.

At some point, no matter what is happening in front of him, a goalie needs to make an unbelievable save to keep his team in the game. It happens every night in the National Hockey League.

defense has 2 good games, 2 bad games...anyone seeing a trend here.

i'm with you right now. ozzy should be given more than 2 games before we throw him under the bus, and i'm in the group that wants this to be his last season. if our D stops giving the other teams free lanes to the net and screening our goalie for them, we'll see alot more saves.

After a year of bad play, you would think he would come out with something to prove. Show people why he's there. He has not. Rookies don't get the benefit of a defense excuse, neither should he.

Goaltender isn't the only position out on the ice. A team that plays no defense and hangs their goalie out to dry isn't going to win very many games and that goalie isn't going to have many good games. He didn't win the game in chicago. He let two in on 28 shots.
