Didn't Hudler look real good playing on Zetterberg's wing last game? I think that is a combination that Babcock does not use nearly enough (in fact, I don't think he has ever used it before for longer than a game). They compliment each other well, and Hudler is like a Datsyuk-lite out there with his playmaking abilities.

The return of 40G Z? I absolutely love these combinations:

Franzen - Datsyuk - Bertuzzi

Hudler - Zetterberg - Cleary

Modano - Filppula - Abdelkader

Draper - Helm - Eaves/Miller

Why can't it stick like this? Why (once healthy) are we going to see a line of Cleary - Zetterberg - Bertuzzi?

I like the looks of these lines. As i recall Datsyuk played with Bert for a good stretch last year and they had very good chemistry. But we all know that Homer will not be a healthy scratch. Hopefully he is on the 4th lines because that third line with Abby is so much better. Hopefully Homer gets 4th line minutes and is fresh and affective for the powerplay. Does anybody else feel that with Homer's even strength drawbacks that it would be more benificial for the team to have him as a health bomb and have Cleary park his rear end in front of the net?

Hmmm, that is a large overstatement. I realize the "lite" part implies he is quite less than him but I would give Flips the "Datsyuk-lite" tag. Hudler is a talented playmaker, no doubt. Just thinking the Datsyuk part to this is overdone considering he has little to no Datsyuk type ability.

The way I see it would be like this:

Hudler is Datsyuk-lite as far as passing is concerned.

Filppula is Datsyuk-lite as far as dangling is concerned.

Filp can dangle, but he does not have the vision, accurate pass, or saucer that Hudler has. Hudler's passing is sublime out there, I suggest you watch him in the neutral and offensive zone more closely. He is always finding the open man, leading through pass, or perfect saucer through the lanes. Filp can dangle, hang onto the puck, and fly with his skating ability. His passing is OK, and offensive vision is OK, but no where near the level of Hudler.

I have watched and I would give him a definite  for his passing ability. Prime example would be the goal in Tampa where he threaded a spectacular saucer pass which is in this thread somewhere. I will not take a single thing away from Jiri's ability to pass the puck, that I will give you. Val's overall game really is closer to a "Pav-lite" imo, but that's what we are here for. To shell out our own uneducated opinions laugh.gif

Overall game, yes Filppula would be a better comparison for Datsyuk.

Offensively, I (and we) think Hudler is a better comparison.

Either way I think the combination of Hudler and Zetterberg together would look great out there. Zetterberg wouldn't have to do all the creative work offensively that he does when he is on a line with people like Cleary and Bertuzzi.

Had to work and so I didn't get to watch the game.

So Hudler is on a line with Zetterberg and Cleary?

Doesn't look like it as Hudler only played almost 11 minutes.

He started the game with Abby and Miller. Had an assist on Z's powerplay goal. I believe midway through the 2nd (or around that time) he and Bert switched places. He was great tonight not only on the stat sheet, but he was working very hard, backchecking, creating turnovers, getting pucks out of the zone at key times, etc. Very very solid game for Jiri tonight.

Long live the Zetterberg - Hudler connection!

Dear Babs, you've found gold... STOP MESSING WITH IT...

Cleary and Hudler work very well together and both need to be with a top line center to be most effective, so its pretty simple, keep them together and with Pav or Hank, and they will both produce... I also like Bert with Franzen, and Fil and Modano seem to have found some good chemistry as well, so... there's that...

Modano looks great on Fil's wing as long as he stops taking wristers from the blue line. That is the perfect 3rd line behind Dats/Franzen/Bert and Huds/Z/Cleary

I disagree with the Flip and Mo line. Modano can give Flip the puck right on the tape when he is covered but Flip cannot give Mo the puck when he is covered. Usually Flips passes to him are in his skates and something I noticed (well IMO at least) is that Mo has a hard time while is in stride going skate to stick. Personally I would put Mo on a line with Z or Mule since they are more of a sniper which Mo can be the setup man. Mo has made some good "veteran plays" in the last few games that needed someone with a better finishing touch to work.

-4 against St. Louis.

Brutal game for that line tonight. Really didn't even have any decent scoring chances 5v5, and hideous defensively. Hopefully it pisses them off and they all score hatties next game.
