Fall 2010 Prospect Review

Figured I'd put this on the main board since no one goes to the prospect/GRap section except like four of us. Nice article form HFBoards on our youngins'.

The Detroit Red Wings remain one of the model franchises in the NHL, and their prospect pool reflects that. While consistently picking in the bottom third of the Entry Draft, the Wings nonetheless find what they need.

Nothing new to those who already follow the prospects.

Except that Tatar and Nyquist are not centers anymore. Sigh... HF is stubborn.

You're included in that group of 4 :P

It's still a good read.I really wish Daniel would give NA another chance and not be such a little girl. Good read on Aubry as well.

There's you, me, Aussie... Who else? Drake_Marcus I think follows them pretty well. Newfy... Well, he only cares about them if they're meatheads who are gonna fight or run the crap out of people. :P

Also I really love updating the prospect threads. Not so much the stats but rather the articles about their progress and seeing them grow. However, 97% of the articles I've tried to archive within that forum came from George Malik's blog. Since that doesn't exist anymore I've got nothing, haha. I wish mlive hired a replacement. Or at least, offer him a raise.

An outdated analysis that seems to have been written some time in the summer. I wouldn't put much stock in it.

Well I seldom contribute because its pretty difficult to do so from the UK, but I lurk around pretty much every red wings prospect forum I have found (and use it to update all NHL related PC games accordingly).

I would agree the article seems out of date as it seems to say things even I know are wrong! Obviously everyone seems to like the cut of mursak's jib, and its only a matter of time before he is regular 3rd liner in my eyes. Pulkkinen is also clearly very exciting, but its too early to say if his injury problems are behind him. RE HTD, I like that the wings are keeping tabs, because all the stats and reports would suggest that his problem is more maturity than ability, and that can come. I guess also being almost European (bit of politics there)that I have some sympathy for those who make poor transitions, and looking at this years stats and reports of renewed vitality, that I would even have a look-see to check if grigorenko has finally conquered his post accident demons.

I guess the ones I am most excited about long term based on reports & video clips are obvious choices like smith, nyquist and nicastro, but almqvist could potentially step into the rafalski role if given time.

No I follow all the prospects but the ones who are meatheads I follow a little more closely haha

No but actually I do keep up with the prospects quite a bit. I watch a lot of Griffins games so I have a good grasp on all those prospects there at least.

And speaking of meatheads, this article says Nicastro is a finesse player while Nill says he might be our most physical prospect. Come on HF I could write this just as good as you

Tatar-Jarnkrok-Nestrasil

Pulkkinen-Sheahan-Callahan

Nyquist-Andersson-Mursak

Filppula-Aubry-Parkes

Raedeke-Ferraro

Smith-Lashoff

Almqvist-Nicastro

Fournier-Jensen

Kolosov

McCollum

Mrazek

It's probably do better than the Oilers and Islanders as long as Fraser stays far away from all these guys.

So what does everyone think about Ferraro? He hasn't been scoring but he is a captain, still is blazing fast, can throw some hits and will fight from time to time and does okay for himself. Everett fans are also happy with the effort he puts in on both ends of the ice, just the points aren't coming.

He was a second round pick so if he ends up an okay third liner or a 4th line energy player with blazing speed and is fairly physical would we be upset about this pick? He looks like he might become another Helm type without the PKing but will drop the gloves from time to time.

Callahan, Ferraro and someone else (Cayer maybe?) could be a pretty effective 4th line. Speed, toughness and a little bit of scoring.

I feel like the Wings see Callahan as a complimentary top six guy to be honest: A guy who can do all the dirty work like screen the goalie, retrieve pucks and provide physical forechecking. I mean, he was the first guy to get a contract among the 2009 draftees. To me that shows a lot of excitement, which means to me that they see him in a role much bigger than a bottom six guy.

Newfy cares equally for all the Canadian prospects.

Ferraro's numbers this year are breathtaking*.

*Like getting kicked in the chest.

On the upside it won't be hard for him to have bounce back year next season. I assume his numbers can only go up...

Speaking of which: Riley Sheahan!

It would be awesome if Callahan could develop into a top 6 guy. He is producing some points for sure but I think he is more likely to be a third line guy. If he was good enough to be a top 6er in the N, wouldn't you think he would've been utilized more in the world juniors.

He has just been going up and up though since he came to the WHL and maybe with a year in the AHL he can develop a scoring touch in the pro game.

Haha Drake I let guys like you get me all the info on the exciting prospects like Pulkkinen and Jarnkrok. Believe it or not I regularly do hockeydb searches on those guys to see them tearing it up but they have enough followers on here that I dont need to hype them.

Callahan however I follow pretty closely because hes a rare item in the wings system, and well I always have to defend Sheahan because people are sos quick to call him a bust already
