Watching the habs sabres game right now and I am really impressed with Gaustad. He can put up 30 points a year, is 6'5", hits, fight and can PK.

He is the type of guy I really wish Detroit could get on their third line for a playoff run. I would do a Hudler and a 3rd for Gaustad to bulk up for the playoffs. I would love having a 6'5 player who actually uses their size on this team for once

I think Hudler and a 3rd is a bit of an overpayment. A third could probably get Gustad alone but someone would have to go. I'd rather see hudler go in a bigger deal for Shane Doan, ship that hobbit to the Desert.

Yea. A third would be plenty.

I'm not sure Kenny is going to pick anyone up unless Modano is done for the year. If everyone is healthy, Draper would be 2nd in the healthy scratch line so we'd be pretty deep already forward wise. I think we do need someone who can seriously bang bodies and even mildly intimidate though. (No, Drew Miller is not the answer <_< )

I'm thinking a veteran, shut down defenseman. Steve Staios, maybe? Rob Regehr?

I'd rather have a Winchester type. Better hitter and fighter. Can also score goals better than most 4th liners (including our own).

Granted, we could use someone who could actually win a faceoff, which Gaustad is great at.

Yeah I like Winchester too but Gaustad is a bit better I think overall. And having his faceoff ability (or Konopkas) on a PK in our zone would be great for this team

Regehr is $4 million and Staios is $2.7 million.

Kaberle, for comparison, is $4.25 million.

You've got that mixed up, Staios is $2.7 mil and Regehr is $4 mil signed for another 2 years after this one. Regehr would be a solid pickup for this team, but I dunno how to get him and clear the $4 mil.

Damnit, right. Sorry about that. I'll fix.

Generally, teams don't pay $2.7 - $4 million for a third pairing defenceman. Unless they're Calgary.

You've got those two Calgary d-men salaries flipped.

Also Regher is signed through 2013. So he's not just a rental.
