Also, Grand Rapids are playing Texas tonight. You all know where to go to watch it. 8:30PM EST start.

I'm going to bed now, but when I wake up I'm going to watch IF I can log in! I went overseas, forgot my log-in, but my email has stuffed up so I can't look up username records. I've got a fair idea what it might be which I'll try again tomorrow, but should it not work, I hope you can help me!

Quick question, as for AHL players, do they have a chance of continuing their schooling or did Nyquist end up throwing away his senior years for his dream? I understand the salary of the AHL is ~38,000 and thats fine and dandy but I also feel bad that the guy is on his senior year of college and is now chasing the dream of a professional hockey player instead of finishing school. He sounds like hes got his head on his shoulders and can be a great assist to the team, I hope the best for him for his tryout and season with the GRG!

He can take online classes bud. It ain't like he played a shift in the OHL and forfieted his college rights (same theory bu with academics, incredibly stupid rule btw), he'll could just finish school online. Glad your tearing up for him tho! Lol

If I'm not mistaken, Abby's still finishing his degree from MSU.

I'm a huge Nyquist fan. I can't wait to see what he can do in Grand Rapids. He should help with their playoff push.

Sign him up for some boxing lessons, I say.

No thanks. This kid has slick hands and great vision. We don't need his hands getting broken or his face being crushed.

Abdelkader should be the one dropping his mitts more often.

After Dats got in a fight this year, I'm all for everyone knowing how to fight. Not that he should ever be looking for it, but sometimes your hand is forced. Dats and Boogard have spent some time together, so I'm sure Dats got some tips. Also, boxing is supposed to be a very good way to condition. If I'm not mistaken, Abby took the lessons while at MSU taking classes, so it was probably just another way to work out while away from Detroit.

Agree. I'm all for Abby fighting more, but I don't understand why he is always singled-out. Nothing he has done in his career suggests he is an enforcer, in any sense of the word. Also, not including preseason, Eaves has the same amount of NHL fights as Abby.

Because the bulk of the guys on here are reaching so much to get that type of player that he was immediately labeled with it. Maybe some day their dreams can come true.

Amadio, Straub and Keefe?

Toughest team in the West

Well as he's in Grand Rapids now, their strength and conditioning coach Aaron Downey will give fighting lessons to anyone who wants them.

I guess this follows the thought that Flip should be a 60+ point player- everyone wants him to be one, some labeled him as such, but it likely isn't going to happen. For a guy whose never had more than 7 fights in a season, people here are really reaching.

Thank you for streaming the games. I need to start watching the Griffins again, especially to see Nyquist.

And some very solid middleweights with Owens, Tardif, Smith and possibly even Kolosov who can handle himself.

Then on top of that you have some skilled guys like Mursak and Pare who will throw down and do alright on occasion. Lashoff could be a very solid scrapper as well, he just hasn't done it in Grand Rapids really unfortunately.

Yeah I think its safe to say Nyquist will be well taken care, but even Tatar has a fight this year so never say never.

ps UK I'm caught up on work now so I should be able to start catching the griffs again, must be getting lonely with hardly anyone to watch with lol

Not to mention GR has recently signed Mike Hedden, another solid middleweight fighter from the ECHL.

Kolosov isn't as strong as he used to be. He's lost some muscle this season and it shows. He's been ragdolled in his two fights this season. Pare is just one of those guys who will come out swinging when provoked. Good little player Pare. Been finding the net alot this season. He just can't defend. Smith hasn't been as physical since his injury which is understandable. Smith is a surprisingly good fight. Could easily become one of those physical defense fighters, but I doubt Detroit wants that. Tatar...just wanted to be part of the Toronto brawl I think. He did OK though, going against someone who fights several times a year.

Grand Rapids games are never boring.

Everyone who's a member of redwingslive get down tonight to watch the Griffins!

Shawn Thorton did a piece with Comcast Sports Net New England and they followed him in an offseason workout.

He boxed but said it had a lot more to do with Cardio than it did fighting. Saying a hockey fight does not resemble boxing.

Wow are they really the toughest team in the West? I've kept my eye on them but not the other teams.

With 3 heavyweights and a plethora of solid middleweights yeah they could be considered the toughest, its not a stretch by any means.

Nyquist looked good through one period of play so far tonight

I missed the first, what's the score?

Also, I can't get the chat window to appear. Anyone have any suggestions (firefox isn't prompting me that I'm missing a plug-in)?

There are other skilled 5-11 guys, but he’s more intense, Works harder, chases the puck, backchecks very good. Not very physical, but skates and works and wants the puck back all the time." -Hakan Andersson

The bolded part sounds kind of weird to me. The first thing you say about him is that he's not all that skilled?

I think what he was getting at is there are several other players as skilled (notice he didn't say more skilled forwards, rather he said other skilled) but he’s more intense, Works harder, chases the puck...

No idea, Im semi retarded when it comes to computers, UK might be able to help you out.

The griffs had a 3-0 lead but really got jobbed by the refs and ended up losing 5-3. Nyquist looked really slick and shifty out there though I must say.

So Mursak is in Detroit; Owens and Smith are injured; Nyquist will play his second game and I believe Johnson will return tonight from his suspension. With what they have available I hope they ice this lineup:

Filppula-Emmerton-Tatar

Nyquist-Andersson-Tardif

Minard-Johnson-Pare

Straub-Raedeke-Keefe

Janik-Pyett

Meech-Amadio

Kolosov-Ehrhardt

Pearce

Here's hoping for a win in Texas!
