Zetterberg Injury Update

I had the same thought. It seems the last two years or so they play best when the other is injured, oddly enough. They really shine when they have to carry the team. But when they're together it's almost like they don't want to steal the spotlight from the other and so neither is as stellar.

I feel the same way. They respond when the team really needs them to. Filppula can be like that as well at times. It's frustrating because you'd think, "Wow if they're playing this well now, they'll be even more awesome when Z gets back" but I don't think we've ever seen that kind of awesome.

Ken Daniels was on TSN radio in Toronto on Thursday and doesn't expect Z back until Game 6, if there is one.

Simple solution, just wrap this thing up in 4, and Z will get a few extra days to heal.

Red Wings' Henrik Zetterberg gets in full practice, ready to play at start of next round

DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings aren't sure yet when they'll be starting the second round of the playoffs, but they're happy to know they will have leading scorer Henrik Zetterberg back regardless of when it begins.

Zetterberg on Friday got in what he said was his first full practice since suffering a sprained left knee on April 6 in Carolina and said he is ready to play. The Red Wings' next round won't begin until late next week.

“I'm feeling better than yesterday, that's all I can ask for,'' Zetterberg said. "As long as it goes that way, I'm going to be ready to go.''

Zetterberg had never missed a playoff game since joining the NHL in 2002-03, appearing in 97 consecutive postseason games, before this year.

“Hopefully he's in a situation here where we can get his conditioning up to speed and get going,'' coach Mike Babcock said. "He's one of our top two players up front. We'd like to have him back.''

Forward Johan Franzen (sore left ankle) was the only player who didn't practice Friday. Babcock said he'll definitely be ready for the next game.

“Not concerned about that,'' Babcock said. "I don't know when he'll start to practice. We'll give him as much time as we can. He'll have to do his conditioning in other ways.''

Babcock gave the players Saturday and Sunday off. They'll resume practicing on Monday.
