Fraser: Thronton didn't dive

I have to believe that the referee did not read the trip as it occurred and that he must have thought that the slash hit Thornton in a protected area of his shin pad and as such Joe's reaction was one of embellishment (diving). This certainly wasn't the case as a camera shot showed Thornton's face in the penalty box. Franzen's slash obviously carved some meat off the ham bone

what a lunatic the Fraser column and the Dreger column and pretty much everything else is making TSN look like a joke.

I personally like the Kerry Fraser articles on TSN, he talks a lot of honesty when it comes to the game. If you haven't you should read his article concerning "make up" calls. Towards this article it was an obvious dive, there was no "trip" by Franzen, the stick barely went above the lip of his skate and he has shin pads. Does it hurt? Hell yeah it hurts if he actually connected with skin but I highly doubt it. The worst is that "big joe" went down holding his face like he had gotten high sticked. I was surprised he wasn't biting his lips while he was down there trying to sell a double like some Shark players I know.

It actually is "possible" that it wasn't a dive, but unlikely. Looks like the stick could have caught him between the skate and the shin pad, and if it did, speaking form experience, that hurts a hell of a lot.

In all liklihood though....dive. I did get a bit of an amusement out of Franzen complaining about the dive though, I mean, of all players.....

Meh, the right calls were made. Time to move on.

I really like Kerry Frasier's columns on TSN. The article on make up calls was great. He really seems honest when he writes them. With the amount of high praise I read on these forums about him and McCreary, you would think some of these would get a little more positive attention.
