Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted June 28, 2011 From a Griffins point of view, it means things will be run to benefit the Wings more than the Griffins in terms of playing staff or playing roles. I'm also concerned about translating their NHL philosophy on enforcers to the AHL where multiple enforcers are an absolute necessity. Dunno, the Wings have a pretty solid history of providing depth signings that basically act as tough guys in the AHL. Tardif, etc. Seems to be one of their most common non-NHL roster signings. Wings running the team could have a positive effect on development, which in turn may have a positive effect on how the team plays.
Red Wings Addict 787 Report post Posted July 4, 2011 In regards to the Red Wings prospects, it's mostly positive that the Red Wings staff are taking more control. Or at least I hope. He may not have the best attitude in the world, but I feel like Daniel Larsson had a legitimate complaint when he said GR had no goalie coach to help him develop. Hopefully those issues will be no more once the Wings do a little more micro managing in GR.

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted July 5, 2011 Larsson: tough one. He needs to be re-signed (RFA) but appears intent on staying in Sweden. He could be the new Liv. Hopefully he comes back to GR. Smith: No question here-- he's the #1 call-up when a defenseman goes down. Andersson: Hard to say. He's played a season in the AHL but Tatar is above him when it comes to forwards they'd call up. I suspect he'll get a shot at a call-up. From a Griffins point of view, it means things will be run to benefit the Wings more than the Griffins in terms of playing staff or playing roles. I'm also concerned about translating their NHL philosophy on enforcers to the AHL where multiple enforcers are an absolute necessity. I wasn't looking forward to the Griffins' next season and even less so now. Callahan is going to be there. That's all we need. We've still got Minard and Johnson for 1 more year. Which were Holland's genius signings For anyone who didn't know, Bob MacNamara has stepped down as GM of GR and the Wings will be running the show down there from now on. Which doesn't fill me with hope. I thought the whole point of signing them was for the purposes of having depth in GR. Having the NHL team fulfill the GM duties of the AHL team isn't as uncommon as you'd think.
Red Wings Addict 787 Report post Posted July 5, 2011 Callahan is going to be there. That's all we need. I love Callahan and I think he'll be a Red Wing one day but I don't think his transition into the AHL will be smooth at all. Far from it.

mmamolo 287 Report post Posted July 6, 2011 We should see Smith and Tatar at some point. Probably McCollum again (ewww). Nyquist might get a glimps if the injuries get real bad. If Tardiff is still here he might get his shot. Other than that, I don't see anyone else. That McCollum call up was purely due to injuries and after Pearce was there briefly they just wanted to take the chance to let McCollum be around the big club and sit on the bench. It's unfortunate the Wings were being destroyed by the Blues. Babcock took a massive gamble in putting McCollum in the net (I would imagine the plan was just to put him in for 5-10 mins to light a fire under his team's ass) in hoping his team would rally around the young goalie and protect him. It failed miserably and although McCollum's developement has been extremely slow and nowhere near where any of us would like it to be he really should not be blamed for his call up last season. If anything that St. Louis game was a deterrent to the rest of his season as his confidence was shaken. Next time he gets a sniff at the NHL he better be protected. If he gets lit up it could be extremely damaging. Right now I'd say Smith and Tatar are the only sure fire guys to get a look. If any others are needed due to injuries they will emerge as the season progresses.

Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted July 6, 2011 I dont keep up with the AHL stats like others. Are Anderson and Pyett showing anything? Not really... Though Pyett has shown enough that I could see him catching on with some NHL team as a 7th or 6th power play specialist. If he did, it would be for a bad team and would most likely stunt his development. His defense is not where it needs to be and I suppose that he will have to find another place to develop and learn the craft. He is much like Rafalski at that age. Still much to figure out before he can go forward. He will most likely be in the AHL for many more years then get a chance with a team like Florida and play a few seasons tops. Anderson is showing more of an NHL caliber, and at a position where there is more chance of him making a team. He has the brain to play both ways and looks like he needs fine tuning to be a depth forward. He is a good teammate and can do many things you love to see, including blocking shots. I just don't think he will ever be fast enough or tough enough to be a gritty defensive forward that he will need to be in order to have a role with the Wings. Though it is not set in stone. He projected to be a third liner, and I don't see him being better than the others we could eventually put in that role.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted July 6, 2011 Smith, Tatar, and McCollum. Smith and Tatar for sure, McCollum only if we have another cluster-you-know-what situation in goal. I'd even venture to say that Tatar and Smith are locks to make the team in 12-13.
Red Wings Addict 787 Report post Posted July 7, 2011 Can't wait for Malik's reports on Pulkkinen! So much for that... Highly touted 2009 picks Calle Jarnkrok (shoulder injury) and Teemu Pulkinen, as well as Griffins Tomas Tatar and Joakim Andersson, won’t be attending. Riley Sheahen, the team’s 2010 top pick, had summer classes at Notre Dame and cannot attend.http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2011/07/red_wings_development_camp_in.html
