Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted November 23, 2011 Trotz must really like McGrattan Pass on Bergfors. One of laziest, softest players this league has seen in a while.
Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted November 23, 2011 He must have an absolute joke of a work ethic if so many teams pass on him. I liked him, I even wanted the Wings to have a crack during the off-season when he was a free agent, but not now. SEL for him you'd imagine.
diehardredwing19 11 Report post Posted November 23, 2011 yea i guess you got a good point aussie wing... but at the same time maybe nashvilles system wasn't the perfect fit for him i dono but yea i believe he was on florida to? after atl...? if so then theres got to be something real bad bout him i suppose.. ps. aussie wing were you at the "toast to hockeytown" meet and greet? cuz if your from austrailia i think we chatted there haha
GSBrooks13 204 Report post Posted November 23, 2011 I watch a lot of NJ hockey and he was decent when he played there then okay when he played for Atl and hasn't done much since.. And seems to me Detroit already has one player they picked up to fill the roll of reclamation project in Brunnstrom. If he goes anywhere in the NHL I would think maybe CBJ or some bottom feeder in desperate need of offense.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted November 23, 2011 I'd rather Bergfors than Brunnstrom, but both is better than one. He could be a solid addition. 36 points in 72 games last year. Maybe send Smith down, give him a few games (5-10) to prove himself before Mursak comes back, and if he can hack it you deal off Eaves or Miller. If not, you waive or trade Bergfors. At 24, he's still got plenty of potential for improvement - and is also a potential trade piece. Imagine having both Bergfors and Brunnstrom, and them suddenly achieving potential? Combine that with a rebound year from Hudler and a breakout year from Flip... and there would be zero "what happens when Dats and Z slow down?" threads. Bruno was sent down to make room to keep Smith. Though it wouldn't make much difference to me if we picked him up to replace Bruno for now. Injuries could open a spot down the road. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted November 23, 2011 (edited) We should sign him. It would at least silence those posters (like myself) who want us to get tougher. Edited November 23, 2011 by GMRwings1983
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted November 23, 2011 No room for both. Bruno was sent down to make room to keep Smith. Though it wouldn't make much difference to me if we picked him up to replace Bruno for now. Injuries could open a spot down the road. It was more of a long-term "what if" than a now "what if" statement. Unless Smith just blows it away and makes waiving Commodore a non-issue (Janik and Exelby are still decent options if Commodore is claimed) Smith would have to be sent down to acquire Bergfors; at which point you then have to also decide between Miller, Eaves, and Emmerton. Eaves probably has the least chance of being claimed (Miller has been excellent, Emmerton is still quite young and is very solid defensively) so he gets waived when Mursak returns. Now we're rotating Bergfors (unless he tears it up), Miller, Emmerton, and Mursak on the fourth line. Maybe Holmstrom as well. Kindl/Ericsson/Smith would be rotating, or Commodore would be sitting, or maybe even just a Kindl/Ericsson rotation if Smith does well enough. So Bergfors has time to either prove himself or get waived to bring up Eaves (at which point he's either gone or in Grand Rapids) and go with that roster down the stretch, assuming no trades.
