Cant you read? "Because other teams have a need and could use him better than we could"

So we dont want to let another team get him. We play him in 85% of the games, and he's 24 years old with one season under his belt. Why again are we not interested in his development??

We have zero use for him....hes the worst forward on a team overloaded with forwards....and hes not going to develop into a top 6er, that much is obvious....thats business...bye bye cory

Agree on the not top 6er. Disagree on your pessimism about him fitting in. Hes fast, and speed kills. Thats the reason Babs got him 71 games last year. And thats the reason he will play in front of others. Only 600k per, too. Crazy how all you can only express negativity around these parts if it falls inline with popular opinion

I won't lie I'm definitely a pessimist with Emmerton. I'm not falling in line with popular opinion though, I'm basing that off what I saw in those 71 games. I'm usually an optimist about all of our guys....I even believe Kindl will be good one day and thats not popular around here at all....But Emmerton showed nothing in those 71 games....not even a small flash of anything. And we have plenty of other forwards to go with.....

Also it doesn't really help that all the scouts are calling him a career minor leaguer

Let's not present certain stats as meaning something they don't. Emmerton was in 71 games, this is true. But in those 71 games he averaged 8mins of ice time per game - by far the lowest of any regular player. The only semi regular, Jan Mursak, who had fewer mins per game was Jan Mursak who only played in 25 games. Emmerton played as often as he did this year because the Wings were intent on playing both Fil and Abdelkader on the wing as much as humanly possible this year which left them with little depth down the middle.

I'm not trying to pile on and say Emmerton is worse than he is but he certainly was not strong last year. With the glut of forwards this year, assuming Emmerton some how made the roster, he would not see consistent ice time as Abdelkader will be centering line 4. This of course is assuming no trades happen.

Define these "others" that Emmerton will dress ahead of assuming the full group of forwards are healthy. The Red Wings have an excess of forwards as it is and Emmerton is the worst of the bunch.

It isn't really popular opinion. It's most sensible fans recognizing that Emmerton offers very little to the team.

Why? because he's fast? He's not that fast... Mursak will probably get shipped out because we have so many forwards and Mursak is the same size as cory, the same age as cory, the same contract as cory, but muchhhhh faster than cory....... and actually has hands too

Fragile Jan? Cory is ahead on depth chart. Hes ahead of miller and eaves too. He will play. Watch.

Ahead of Miller and Eaves? The two best penalty-killing forwards after Helm and also two players that will/have easily outscore(d) Emmerton too? Miller was a huge part of the third line being very successful when Helm was healthy last season and Eaves is more than capable of doing the same as well.

The only forward I would maybe consider Emmerton ahead of right now is Brunner and that's only because he has never played a shift in the NHL. Even so, his potential is more exciting than whatever Emmerton provides (nothing).

Fragile Jan? you mean unlucky Jan? that injury could have just as easily happened to Cory.

Care to make more bets? I'll put 20 on Cory being below Miller and Eaves by December....save for injuries

Edit: If cory is still even on the team in Dec lol

Cory is going to be 4th line stud this year. Fragile Jan will be in Grand Rapids.

Emmerton's saving grace is he's a center. But Abdelkader gets the nod before Emmerton. Eaves and Miller are each better and, though not centers, more valuable than Emmerton.

I like Emmerton well enough. He seems like a good kid. (lolz, he's only a year younger than me.) Good wheels. Scored against the Preds.

But he's right around the bottom of the totem pole. If I'm him, I'm hoping some of my bottom-6 brothers get shipped out.

They will. Fragile Jan will be in GR with Tatar. Eaves will be gone. And Miller will be filling in for whoever is hurt.

TheAxe is that you Emmerton? rofl. Dude, we understand you love the kid but don't let it fog your vision. He is not ahead of Miller and Eaves in the depth chart, to even comprehend that is uncanny. If anything he's going to get packaged for the D man Holland is looking for after the CBA is announced because we can't afford to lose him strictly off waivers and he isn't good enough to crack the lineup this year. Emmerton has wheels, but he certainly isn't the fastest prospect. Just let me ask you this, in your honest opinion you're going to tell me that you would rather dress Emmerton over Eaves who is one of our best PK'ers and right handed shots?

I think the biggest surprise this year will be Jarnkrok making the team out of training camp. In all reality, I see a Nyquist type situation where he plays like a champ in the pre season, but we have no open roster spot because bert, cleary, and emmerton are much more "valuable" to the team

that's the only reasons that Nyquist and Smith weren't on last years team. That coupled with Smith's super lame "I'm not biased towards the Wings" Shanaban.

I would poop myself with joy if Jarnkrok made the team, but there was an article that said he and Pulkkinen were playing in Europe for another year. And with our current logjam at the forward positions, it would probably be better for both guys if they could just concentrate on playing in 1 place all year and hammering on 10-15 pounds over the season.

The only reason Emmerton got as many games as he did last year was the need to plug someone into that 4th line center role with Babs wanting Abby on the wing. WIth the glut of forwards on the team at this point, it looks pretty clear that you can pencil in Abby making the move to center full time & taking that spot. That pretty much leaves no role for Emmerton to play.

As it stands right now, there are realistically 5 forwards competing for the 12 & 13 spots in Eaves, Nyquist, Brunner, Emmerton, & Mursak. You might be able to make a case in adding Tatar onto that list & maybe give the likes of Sheahan, Jarnkrok, & even Pulkkinen an outside chance too. Eaves is a proven commodity in the NHL & probably has a spot if he's healthy. I really don't see Emmerton bringing more to the table than Nyquist or Brunner given that those 2 would need to plug holes in the top 6 from time to time if not taking on a full time role there. Could Emmerton do that? I doubt I'm not the only one who would say no to that question. Barring any trades, he either makes it through waivers & plays in GR or winds up getting claimed by another team. Same with Mursak too.

The way I see it to start the season....

Mule-Pavs-Brunner or Nyquist

Fil-Z-Sammy

Clears-Helm-Bert

Miller-Abby-Tootoo

Eaves (Nyquist if Eaves isn't healthy)

I for one already consider Emmerton not a Red Wing. Either he gets waived to GR or gets picked up off waivers by another team, hence the reference earlier to Emmerton making a nice Islander. There's just nothing else that can really be done with him as a Red Wing. Best of luck to him though anywhere he ends up. Never disliked him and he was really good in Jr.

Eaves and Fragile Jan cant stay healthy. Nyquist and Brunner are top 6 guys. So Emmerton will see a lot of games.

If the Wings do carry 14 forwards & they want someone who can add to the bottom 6, there's a better chance of Sheahan making the team at this point then Emmerton. Sheahan brings more size, can cycle like a demon, & has more offensive upside too.

Given the current state of the defense though, I wouldn't be surprised if Kenny signs 2 cheap UFA d-men yet & goes with 8 d & 13 forwards given the lack of d-prospects the Wings can call up from GR in case of injury while still having the likes of Sheahan, Tatar, & possibly Nyquist to call up if a forward goes down.

Where does Emmerton fit in the line up though? I like that you've conceded that Nyquist and Brunner are top 6 guys and assming they're in the top 6 it would look approximately like so:

Mule-Dats-Nyquist

Brunner-Z-Flip

With the bottom 6 having like 20 guys...eff it, i'll just list 'em.

Miller, Helm, Abby, Bert, Sammy, Tootoo, Eaves, Cleary, Mursak, Emmerton and possible call ups from Andersson and Sheahan (whom are more useful in the bottom 6), not sure where Emmerton fits in.

Bottom 6 with a 13th/14th forward looks more like:

Sammy-Helm-Bertuzzi

Tootoo-Abby-Cleary

Eaves, Miller <---(possible D)

Emmerton won't knock any of those guys off and Mursak could be trade bait. Until Bertuzzi, Cleary and Sammy are done in a couple years, we won't see much more roll over on the bottom lines.
