We should take up a collection and buy it. The LGW Hockey Museum and Whiskey Bar.

We can put it on kickstarter. I'll even donate my time for $100,000/year to maintain and operate the musuem.

As it was my idea, I'll do absolutely nothing and still make a lot of money. This will be great!

I'll "operate" the whiskey bar...

You better get up on your whiskey, son. I don't tolerate shenanigans.

if this thing is to open in 2.5 years, surely they must be close to breaking ground on it.

i wonder when we'll get some idea of the look of this thing.

HKS, the firm design the new arena, came to my school for a career fair and I talked to them and asked a little about the wings arena. He didn't give me any details but he said that the Detroit office was in charge of designing the exterior but had to give that part back to the Dallas office because they were too busy with other things. He said that they gave the Dallas office a tour of Detroit architecture for it could be designed relevant to Detroit. No juicy info, but it was still cool to hear from the horses mouth (is this how that expression is used?) that it's getting there.

This is great news because of every other city in the US has clearly demonstrated that new sports stadiums are THE key to revitalizing a downtown area. Casinos too. Detroit. Man, what innovators in urban renewal!!!!

I look forward to seeing your nonexistent proposals. Also, I await your link to the article where it was stated this arena is seen as THE key to revitalizing a downtown area. If anything the excitement comes from moving the Wings right next to the Tigers and Lions, taking care of several blocks of nothingness... and it clearly can't hurt to put something new and significant on Woodward, in the very area where things have been growing. Not to mention, Joe Louis Arena does need to go.

The architecture comment in ZandDfortheC's post intrigues me. I suppose it's too much to hope for the new arena to have some local character to it. Some gothic style touches or something.

I happen to think Comerica has a beautiful exterior. I'm hoping for something equally as impressive with the new arena.
