number9 3,297 Report post Posted January 25, 2014 Did you honestly just put halak on the same level as Howard? Shame on you. I'd say their comparable
Euro_Twins 4,485 Report post Posted January 30, 2014 I'd say their comparable halak is enjoying inflated numbers due to a defensive system, if howie was playing in st. louis his numbers would be so much better then halaks

Howie is good, consistent, nothing to write home about. Same with halak, when he was in MTL or STL

BamaWing 37 Report post Posted February 26, 2014 I'd love to have Ott
Fred_Bear 8 Report post Posted February 27, 2014 many like the idea of Ott here. But I don't see the reason why? In his 8+ full seasons he has scored more than 12 goals in a season twice, so it isn't O. yes he is a good defensive gritty guy, but he isn't really an enforcer either. he is another 3/4 line guy to add to the large collection of those types we already have. Ott isn't a scorer, obviously, but he's tough in the corners and in the face-off circle. Come playoff time, this is something the Wings lack year-in-and-year-out. He's definitely not a top-6 forward for an offensive team, but the Wings lack a real 'grind'-line center and Ott would provide Drew Miller a lot of help on the PK. Ott would fill the same role Tootoo was brought in for. Ott is perhaps more skilled but if there is no place for Tootoo I dont see them trading for Ott. I agree that he would fill Tootoo's role; however, Ott currently plays 19:40 ish per game with the Sabres, 2:30ish of that shorthanded. So he kills penalties as well. He also can play on the PP and I can see us trying to make him a net front guy. So he fills Tootoo's role and more. I honestly see him as more of an Abdelkader type player than a Tootoo type player. By Tootoo's role, you mean as a scratch or buried in the AHL? The big difference between Ott and Tootoo is that you want Ott in the circle. He would give the Wings a lot more options than, say, skating Datsyuk out to take every draw late in playoff games or at the end of the regular season. A first round pick for an upcoming UFA who isn't a star wow. Buffalo really has to lower their expectations for Miller and Ott. I would not do it for the simple fact: I think it could be the best draft position this team has had in some time. The guy will be an UFA so why not wait a few months and make him an offer them without paying a first rounder. Really? This is why I would do it. Holland gave up a minor leaguer and the 19th overall pick for Kyle Quincey on an expiring contract. If we could get Ott for just a late 1st rounder, count me in. Realistically, Ott isn't the type of guy that the Wings want to sign in the off-season, but he is the type of guy they need in the playoffs. This team is getting old enough that they can't overwhelm opponents with speed and stick-handling like they used to. They need a line that can wear down an opponent. A center-man like Ott who can handle himself in the face-off circle, won't embarrass himself on the PK, and can log nearly 20 minutes a game is quite valuable for doing that (especially during a playoff run). By Tootoo's role I meant annoying agitator that everyone hates to play against and forces the other team to keep their head up. Trust me, I realize Ott is way more valuable than Tootoo.
