#2265341 Nystrom hit on Letang

Posted by cnot19 on 01 March 2012 - 10:03 AM

I think it was a clean hit. Letang put himself in a terrible position at the last minute, at that speed its hard to change course at the last minute.

Hopefully not this wings era, otherwise well be stuck with Lilja and Howard autographs

#2248862 Time for my Cleary update.

While his cap hit isnt great, he does add grit and heart which at times this team seriously lacks he also is imo a versatile player, and can move up in the lineup for a short period of time, however i would be willing to move him if we got some bigger more physical players in his place that bring the same grit and toughness.
HEs certainly not causing a problem for this team

To be fair, Helm SHOULD have gotten an interference penalty.
Stuart's hit on Petro was a good hit, nothing illegal about it...but Stewart was right in defending his teammate. Helm's hit on Petro would have been good except for the fact Petro didn't have the puck on the last one. Carlo reacted poorly...either stand up for your teammate or don't...don't just put the guy in a headlock, what does that do?
Howard didn't instigate the fight, but he got off easy with only 2 minutes. He was throwing punches at everyone. He should have gotten a lot more, but it didn't matter...game was over.

I certainly like having an opposing voice, sometimes with too many on one side we can lose our objectiveness and simply agree with each other because were homers, so I applaud you for being part of this board. Either way i think Stewart deserved the extra two, maybe not the instigator ( taking him out for ten) but would have been fine with him getting two for roughing since he initiated the altercation after a clean hit, either way i dont think stewart was too off base, good for him for standing up for his teammate.

As far as the Helm hit, i dont think he deserved a penalty, I didnt see anything wrong with the hit. I think thats just good hard nosed hockey. IMO I really think Carlo cost his team there more than anything, and would be more annoyed by that than the missed call. Even if the refs miss calls (which they do) why give them a really easy way to call one on you?

Either way, I like the blues, their style of play, and have always been a fan of John Davidson, look forward to having more competitive battles with the Blues.

a series against the blues will be rough, need to get bigger and tougher at the deadline

Would be willing to trade any or two of eaves, miller, emmerton for boll clifford or martin. Their size would make more a difference come playoff time.

I would love to add a guy like Matt Martin to this teams bottom six

#2241679 Tortorella fined 30k for WC comments

Posted by cnot19 on 04 January 2012 - 09:53 PM

We all knew a fine was coming, Im sure Torts did as well. You absolutely cannot question the integrity fo the game. Sure the refs may have been more generous to the flyers, but the league (or any other for that matter) can have a coach saying that the network and league got together to fix a game. I agree 100% the calls he was referring to were terrible and Id be up in arms too, but calling the integrity fo the league and television network is off limits.
I also agree the fine does seem a bit overboard in comparison to the max against the players, I would have liked to see something in the 10,000 range

#2230905 The Official NHL Suspension Thread

Posted by cnot19 on 29 November 2011 - 05:18 PM

gotta say 3 games for Pacioretty is reaaally bush league. Letang should learn to keep his head up.and that's it.

I don't get it. I could swallow non-suspension for Lucic (under the explanation, that Shanny can't suspend him with existing rule set), but the Pacioretty thing really feels awkward... Jesus, since when you can skate into the middle offensive zone with your hand down and expect not to be hit... this makes totally no sense...

completely agree, taking hitting away

Bad suspension, shouldn't have been anything more than a 2 min penalty and perhaps a fine, but this is excessive

IMO just another bad suspension

#2212428 Team Assessment - Player by Player

Posted by cnot19 on 05 October 2011 - 02:19 PM

Good job! Ill take a shot at this

Here are the forwards and my line combos

Hudler Datsyuk Cleary
Franzen Zetterberg Filpulla
Bertuzzi Helm Abdelkader
Eaves Emmerton Homer
Brunnstrom Miller

Lidstrom White
Kronwall Stuart
Ericsson Kindl/Commodore
F
Justin Abdelkader
I would like to see him up his physical game even more and put up a little better offensive numbers. Also hopes he stays in the plus side. Cut down on dumb penalties!! Hoping for 10 G 15 A 25 Pts 5+ fights

Todd Bertuzzi
While I am hopeful he continues his shootout prowess consider we falter alot there, I think he continues his performance from last year. Hopefully he can keep up his semi-physical play. 18+ goals would be nice in addition to 25+ assists, an ideal season would have him up around the 50 pt mark. However, I think he will hover more around the 40 pt mark as he continues to slow down.

Fabian Brunnstrom
Tough to judge considering im uncertain how and if hell be used.

Danny Cleary
One of my favorite wings, I am hopeful with constant linemates he improves on his career numbers form last year. Has a pretty damn good nose for the net and with skilled line mates im hoping he can flourish. Ideal Season would have him entrenched on the top two lines putting up 28+ plus goals and gathering 54+ points. In addition I know hell continue his grinding physical play and maybe gets into a scrap or two!

Pavel Datsyuk
I really want Pavs to increase his point total into the upper upper echelon of the league. Hopefully with continuous lines and chemistry he can approach 90+ points. I also would expect him to compete for the selke again. More importantly I want him to remain healthy for the year. 35+ goals and 55+ assists would be great

Patrick Eaves
My only hope for eaves is he just continues his solid play. 12+ goals 10+ assists great PK and solid physical maybe add a scrap or two as well I also expect him to shuffle between the third and fourth lines.

Cory Emmerton
TBH not expecting much, just hoping he goes out and competes every night. 10 points would be nice if he plays the entire year, however I don't see him playing that much with Mursak and Miller moving into on his territory.

Valteri Filpulla
For me its now or never if FIl can take the next step in the regular season. His sound defensive play is a given. I would like to see him improve on his +/- which has been a minus thepast two season. If he can crack the 20 goal and 50 pt mark I would be extremely happy.

Johan Franzes is realistic
Would love to see some consistency. ANything less than 35 goals would be a letdown in my mind.

Darren Helm
Very happy to see him entrenched as third line center. His speed and desire is and always will be there. Im hoping his responsibilities as center continue to grow. An improvement in points is expected and hopefully he moves into the 40 point range. And of course I hope he ups his physical play even further. He'll be in for a nice raise.

Tomas Holmstrom
While I won't deny his accomplishments, I no longer like seeing him on the roster. My hope is he strictly plays fourth line minutes and pp time. 10+ goals with most if not all coming on the power play. I do see him as a liability out there and expect to see him in the pressbox at times throughout the season.

Jiri Hudler
Heres to hoping he remains in the top 6 and gains some chemistry with his line mates. If this happens I expect 50+ points and 20+ goals.

Drew Miller
Not much of a fan, expect more of the same solid PK and good fourth line play. Expect him to rotate in and out of lineup hopefully creating some competition.

Jan Mursak
Tough break for this kid. Hopefully he comes back flying and puts up some points and hustles all over the ice on the fourth line.

Henrik Zetterberg
Continued great puck pssesion skills and playoff prowess. 80+ points and 30+ goals
