In Topic: Hockey 101: Zone exits for wingers

15 August 2014 - 08:19 AM

While I agree that this is a problem, I think the bigger problem is in the offensive zone. The team is horrible at puck possession. The most success seemed to come from the rush. The forwards don't cycle particularly well, and the forcheck  is almost non existent.

Detroit is 25th for CF%, and 9th for FF%. The team just constantly shoots the puck into defensemen. There's no offensive movement to open things up. Everyone just kind of stands around, loses the puck, and it's time for some more mediocre defense.

In Topic: Who is YOUR most under-appreciated/unsung Red Wing?

03 August 2014 - 08:40 PM

The one in 2008 was a different era.  I was talking about the first three Cups.

I can see the argument.  Wings fans think of him as an above average goalie who was a good whipping boy.  In truth, he's a borderline Hall of Famer with two Cups and over 400 wins.  He was more than a good goalie.

At the end of the day, though, he'll be more remembered than someone like Holmstrom, who only had two 50 point seasons in his career.  For those who never saw him play, people looking back at his stats will think of Ozzie as a good goalie.  I doubt people will do the same for Holmstrom.

He was also able to change his playing style from a standup goalie to a hybrid. I think that often gets overlooked.

In Topic: NHL jersey's in GIF's

02 August 2014 - 03:19 PM

The Reebok jerseys and the unnecessary, obtrusive stripes have ruined hockey jerseys.  One of the worst mistakes the NHL made.

I've said this a million times, but the best jerseys are typically the earlier ones.  The teams that decided to drastically change things just to sell more merchandise usually chose a worse design than the one before.

Someone here once told me that people tend to prefer the jerseys that teams wore when that person was younger.  That is also true. I prefer the jerseys teams wore in the early 90's when I was a kid.  However, looking back at those jerseys, they really were simpler and more memorable.

The NHL needs to get rid of the verticle stripes running down from the armpits, and the idiotic horizontal stripe running below the shoulder and neck.  f*** Reebok.

Do you like anything?

In Topic: Dekeyser/Tatar status update

24 July 2014 - 11:39 AM

Remember when Flip and Kronwall both signed for 5 years, 3 million/yr? At first they didn't seem like super amazing deals but as time went along they were huge bargains. Wouldn't mind that for Dekeyser simply because of term (maybe even less cap hit), Tatar needs to prove himself more but hoping he gets a Kindl type deal

Tatar just had a better rookie season than Datsyuk....dafuq?

In Topic: Babcock Interview on 105.1 this morning

18 July 2014 - 11:49 AM

Did we hire Darryl Sutter while I wasn't paying attention?  But I digress...

Because I think none of the GM, coach, management, or ownership would prefer to fire someone when they can just let them walk without all the to-do.

I agree, there aren't many repercussions, but why would you (if given the choice) fire someone if you don't have to?

So you're saying the preferred method would be to let him walk? I agree, that would be more amicable. However, you made it sound like it would be some fool-hardy endeavor for Holland to sign Babcock for multiple years, which is not the case. Is it less desirable to fire him? Sure, but no worries if you had to.
