In Topic: Dekeyser/Tatar status update

Remember when Flip and Kronwall both signed for 5 years, 3 million/yr? At first they didn't seem like super amazing deals but as time went along they were huge bargains. Wouldn't mind that for Dekeyser simply because of term (maybe even less cap hit), Tatar needs to prove himself more but hoping he gets a Kindl type deal

Tatar just had a better rookie season than Datsyuk....dafuq?

Did we hire Darryl Sutter while I wasn't paying attention?  But I digress...

Because I think none of the GM, coach, management, or ownership would prefer to fire someone when they can just let them walk without all the to-do.

I agree, there aren't many repercussions, but why would you (if given the choice) fire someone if you don't have to?

So you're saying the preferred method would be to let him walk? I agree, that would be more amicable. However, you made it sound like it would be some fool-hardy endeavor for Holland to sign Babcock for multiple years, which is not the case. Is it less desirable to fire him? Sure, but no worries if you had to.

I think Holland would be a fool to lock Babs up before seeing how this season plays out.  You've got arguably the best coach not currently in the NHL in your back pocket, and you've got a team that's consistently underperforming in the playoffs.  Give Babs the year.  If the team is healthy and performs well, or if they lose in the playoffs but look strong, then bring him back.  But if they miss the playoffs, get bounced early/get embarrassed, then let Babs walk on good terms (which he'd likely want anyway) and go with Blashill.  6 years of early playoff exits would be reason enough to make a change if that is indeed the case a year from now.

Why? You can fire a coach at any time with little repercussion. It's not like his salary goes against the cap.

If what he says about Pavs, Z, a JHo is true then this team will make some noise. Z, and D alone can carry this team into the playoffs. The pressure being taken off Franzen will hopefully help him out.

I don't know, that interview pumped me up for next season.

He was an AHL rookie, and there is absolutely no evidence that "he wanted to play now".  That's just something people keep saying.  He's far from the first Red Wings player to be expected to play a couple years in the AHL despite being older and having played professionally before.

Also, you're just making things up.  He doesn't have "defensive inefficiencies".  He was lauded for his "Zetterberg-like" commitment to two-way play.

I'm so tired of people using post-hoc justifications to try and make that trade look like it wasn't a total disaster.  He wasn't going back to Europe.  He wasn't demanding immediate playing time.  He would surely have got a chance to be better than Andersson, Sheahan, Glendening, and/or Helm.  And he DEFINITELY isn't bad defensively.

It was s*** trade.  That's all.

Is this done yet? Can we please move on? I kind of don't even like this website anymore because of this, Hossa, and Suter circle jerks that constantly get brought up in not some, but ALL of the posts on this site.
