Coaching is the LAST problem with the Wings. It's the Defense! Plain and simple! We have ONE .... one top four D man. The rest are all 5,6,7s. Danny will be there but he has no mentor as Kronner is fried. It is the D!
I disagree with this. It's not the D's fault that the forwards constantly turn over the puck. It's not the D's fault that the forwards can't forcheck. It's not the D's fault that the forwards can't make, or take a pass to save their life. It's not the D's fault that the team can't win a faceoff this month.
The D is weak, no doubt about it, but it's far from the only problem.
yeah, I got the banhammer for a personal attack on myself.
But weren't the Wings strong in the faceoff this season? Or am I making that up?
They were 2nd in the league for half the season. Their strong possession numbers were driven by faceoff wins. A large offensive strategy was to just throw it on goal, and get an offensive zone faceoff and the carry possession.
Can we all admit that there's a huge jump from the AHL to the NHL, that scoring a ton in the AHL doesn't mean a guy will score int he NHL, and sendPulinnen back down to learn how to do more than try to fire a slapper every time he touches the puck in the offensive zone? Kid needs to settle the @#$& down instead of trying to shoot the puck through the goalie's chest every time.
No. He hasn't been bad. There comes a point when being a big fish in a small pond will stunt your growth.
He'll figure things out, it takes more than 5 games to get acclimated with the NHL.
I've always wondered if you could track down the Guiness Book of World Records fattest man, strap some pads on him, and just literally plug up the entire net with him. Is there a rule in the NHL rule book about this? Are there weight parameters that say "If the goalie is large enough that there is no longer an opening to the net, he cannot play in the NHL?". It surely would solve our shootout issues if there was no entrance to the net at all.
If we can keep this thread respectful and on point about Howard's performance in shootouts, and his percentages indeed being among the lowest, it may continue. Let's keep it friendly, it is the holiday season after all.
