b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 Pavel Datsyuk is having an absolute tear of a season. Currently 1 pt behind Ovechkin and 4 pt behind Crosby who are 3rd and 2nd respectively in the NHL points race this season. Pavel also has as many goals as Malkin and more goals than Crosby. Continued play with Zetterberg is only going to speed up his already career pace. Granted he'll never catch Malkin who apparently gets a point whenever the Pens score. Pavel is also just 2 behind the leader in plus/minus, which sees him in a pack of Bruins that I personally think are due for a rough patch. His takeaway (and giveaway) numbers are impressive as usual and once again, something I believe is only gonna get better in this last stretch to the playoffs. To me this spells another Selke season for Datsyuk. So its funny how there is no press to Pavel, or not a single muttering of MVP anywhere in the league when a guy barely off 3rd and 2nd place in league scoring is also the front runner for the best defensive forward. I know that they don't give the Hart to the best player on the best team, just remarking at just how amazing Pavel has been this season and how you haven't heard 'boo' about it. Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 (edited) ..and he plays only 19 minutes a game. (Ovechkin - 23 min, Crosby and Malkin 22) Edited February 11, 2009 by Reds4Life

Opie 308 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 No way do Pav, Z, Hossa, or Lids (Not that all 4 deserve it but bare with me a point is coming) even get a sniff of the MVP, the fact that the 4 of them are on the same team, regardless of the fact that Z and Lids are having sub par years (for them). All that the voters will look at is the team they are on, and say nope, and give it to AO who they think is on his own. Which to a degree I agree with, he doesn't have another top flight super star on his team and the goaltending in WAS is suspect. Pav and Hossa could potentially both have career years in the same year on the same team on the same line, that my friends is just STOOOOPID!!!!!! (Stupid in the good way, like bad in a good way!) bellarina 1 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 Best overall player in the league by far.
kozac 10 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 He is always under the radar, just like Marc Savard. If you're gonna talk numbers then Zach Parise plays even less than Datsyuk and is only 5 points behind him for #5 spot in the league and has more goals than anyone but Ovechkin. Personally I think Ovechkin will win it because the argument will be that Malkin has Crosby and Datsyuk has Zetterberg, but Ovechkin is doing it by himself and is therefore more valuable to his team. This is bs, of course, because Ovechkin has Semin and it really doesn't matter to Malkin if Crosby is in the lineup or not, he's sill their best player. b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 I agree with the league wide consensus that OV is the most explosive offensive threat in the league, and due to the non-superstar status of most the players he is with he deserves the MVP which has always been described as 'more valuable to his team than anyone else in the league is valuable to theirs' which I completely agree. But with the offensive and defensive dominance of Pavel this season, we all know that all-around he is the best player in the league right now. But SHHH! don't tell the media
Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 Words can't describe how much I like this guy. He is an absolute superstar and in the top 3 players in the league. His stats are incredible and he should break the 100 point barrier for the first time. You just look at his statline and it's so complete in every aspcet. What. A. Gun. Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted February 11, 2009 Best overall player in the league by far. Now that's what I've been talking about! Best all around forward in the league for sure and has been for 2 years now. Oh, and to eva: Datsyuk still > Zetterberg.
Earthhuman 8 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 GST's Kyle Quincey Projection for 2008/2009 (6 goals, 28 points, -17) 11/21/08 LiddyGibby5's Quincey Projection for 2008/2009 (11 goals, 41 points, -3) 11/21/08 Looks like LiddyGibby was just about right on the money. Not for goals, but for points. And his +/- will be closer to -3 than -17.
bellarina 1 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 He's so good that when he dekes, avoids hits, or stalks an opponent to steal the puck, I actually get excited and stand up and get closer to my tv not to miss something. He has god like abilities.

Nev 1,085 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 To be fair, most media pundits that I have seen have him in 3rd for the Hart, behind Ovechkin and Malkin, but I think his recent play and Sundays beatdown may have propelled him into 2nd place. He has a much better chance of the Lester B Pearson, given that is has no East Coast media bias involved and its not "best player on an average team", but just Best PLayer. datsyukismyfriend 4 Report post Posted February 11, 2009 don't look now, but datsyuk is five points away from being a career point per game player. if he simply scores five more points than games played the rest of the season (something he's on pace to do), he'll join that heralded club. Projections, erections. Right now my numbers are alot closer except for +/-. We'll see what happens the last 30 games. I'll happily eat crow if he keeps up his pace but I for one know that prior to the season starting if somebody told me Quincey would be a .5 ppg player, that the Kings would be 2 points out of a playoff spot with 2 rookie goalies, have a winning record both at home and on the road and had 4 dmen with positive +/- numbers, I'd have said no way in hell. Maybe I will be proven wrong. Maybe not. Personally, I'm hoping they make the playoffs unless it means they bump Columbus. I'd like to see Columbus get in finally.
