Please Columbus, don't trade Nash to a Western Conference team, you'll regret it. I can't imagine who we are losing for Nash. Did Nash even say he would waive NTC for Detroit?

Signed Red Wings Sign G Jonas Gustavsson to 2-year deal, $1.5M/yr
RedWingsRox replied to Tim.D's topic in General
Well, I am one of those that thought Joey Mac was a great backup and surprised that we didn't sign him and instead picked up the Monster. I don't think we need to push Jimmy, before his injury, he was the goalie with the most wins for a long stretch of the season. Hell, wasn't he an alternate in the All-Stars? That's why I thought JMac would be a solid backup. Some goalies don't need to always worry about losing the net after one or two bad outings, that actually shakes their confidence. I hope this doesn't send the wrong message to Jimmy management don't trust him or something. And $1.5 mill/yr, I think we could have done with league minimum to give Gus a shot at proving himself. -

Ilitch, Chelios to fly to Suter, Holland to fly to Parise
RedWingsRox replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Neither does Gretzky for the Oilers but he called Schultz for them. Sign Howe to a one day contract every year, July 1st. Another person we should hire as our ambassador.- 79 replies

First time I ever heard us sending out a contingent of people to woo free agents. This must be serious. Why don't we send Gordie Howe?- 79 replies

Wonder which team is eyeing Hudler and will overpay him?
-
i hope we dont panic if suter and parise signs elsewhere
RedWingsRox replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
As someone else said, this is a pivotal year because we lost in round 1 (means our team was average at best) and we lost Lids, Stu, and possibly Hudler ... if we don't get some big time players to take us to the next echelon, we'll be one of those teams that struggle to make it to the playoffs. Isn't that justification for panic? -

Sorry but your post doesn't help ... I will be terribly upset if we don't get some UFA especially to help with our blue line. We've got some pretty big holes to fill there with Lids and Stu gone. AND I will be pretty upset if we just fill our holes with middle level players like Quincey. We need a stud defencemen or two. -
Let's hope this clown from SI is right: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/adrian_dater/06/29/NHL-free-agents-predictions/index.html?sct=nhl_t11_a0 Zach Parise, New Jersey Devils Best fit: Los Angeles Kings Where I think he'll sign: Detroit Ryan Suter, Nashville Predators Best fit: Carolina Hurricanes Where I think he'll sign: Detroit

I see Toronto jumping on this because they need a 1-2 year solution. Seems like a perfect fit.

If we don't get him, then I hope he stays in Jersey. I do not want to see him go to a team like Penguins.

Yah, there is a $$ limit for his entry level contract so GM's will have to promise him play time. I hope his decision to play in BC isn't final yet and that he will surprise everyone and come to Detroit.

GIllis will be caught at the end of the night without a dancing partner. Word was he rejected Schenn for Lui straight up. Imagine if he had the foresight and took Schenn for Luongo, then flipped Schenn for JVR ... people here in Vancouver would be all over themselves. Burke 1 ... Gillis 0.

Top Swiss-leaguer Brunner to sign with Wings, Babcock has big plans
RedWingsRox replied to evilzyme's topic in General
Great job on our scouting team to unearth skill and talent from other sources. Everyone knows that we were known for finding talent in Sweden by having a designated scout there. Now that Russia and Sweden have been tapped, let's find all the gems in Switzerland, Belarus, Africa, China, Australia, India ...- 139 replies

Jordan Staal traded to Carolina, signs 10-yr, $60m extension
RedWingsRox replied to Salviaman's topic in General
You got to hand it to the GM's of Pitts and Carolina ... Lebrun reported that they started chatting at 4:00 pm and by 7:00 pm, deal was done. You gotta like how quickly some GM's get things done. -
Pittsburgh was already the odds on fave to win the Stanley Cup next year. Now you gotta hope for another Fleury meltdown in the playoffs.

Did Holland and management team even bother to show up at draft center today or will they show up tomorrow?

Is the Stanley Cup really the hardest trophy in all of pro sport?
RedWingsRox posted a topic in General
Surely you have heard this at one time or another, even Buttman said it last night in his presentation. I know it is gruelling ... 4 rounds of best of 7, lasting 2 months long, lots of travel, but we're about to watch the finals of the NBA whose playoff format is exactly the same, 8 teams from 2 conferences, 4 rounds of best of 7, 2 months of playoffs ... Winning the Superbowl has its own demands, the physicality of playoff NFL games is brutal. Although they don't play as many games, it is still 4 rounds (unless you get a bye). Baseball seems like it is the easiest sport, hardly any toll on the body, few or little contact. WAY too many regular season games. I respect the winners of the Stanley Cup and would consider it one of the hardest trophies to win in pro sports but maybe NHL should be a bit more humble.
