    Pet Names

I'm planning on buying a dog and I'm trying to come up with a name (Red Wings related) and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas / suggestions for me... Keep in mind, I'm not sure if it will be a male or female yet... So far I've come up with a few possibilities including: Zetty or Zäta (Zetterberg) - being one of my favorite players and the captain for the next 8+ years, it's kinda fitting. Pasha (Datsyuk) - another one of my favorite players, I really like this one as well. Howie (Howard) - I love Howard but not sure if I'm in love with the name. Helmer (Helm) - I love Helm but who knows what kind of career he is going to have when / if he fully recovers from all of these injuries. Abby (Abdelkader) - I kinda like the name, probably better suited for a female. Sammy (Samuelsson) - just as well call him / her sh!t face. Kronner (Kronwall) - not a bad name. Jurco - probably my favorite name, as well as one of my favorite prospects. I would just really have to hope that he becomes the player I think he will be.

    Tickets to the Joe

Hey, I'm looking to buy a couple tickets for a game next month. I'm thinking about the San Jose game on the 11th but I'm not sure yet. Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone has any tickets for sale or knows anyone or anywhere I can buy tickets at or around center ice in the lower bowl?... Possibly in the 107, 108, 121, 122 range... Is there a local classifieds website for the Michigan area where people can buy and sell tickets? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Red Wings' Future

You want to trade our best defenseman? You can argue all you want and point at his atrocious -9 but he IS our best defenseman and he isn't going anywhere. He's always out against other teams top lines for a reason. He's also paired with a rookie right now and as solid as Lashoff looks out there he is prone to mistakes. He will get much better and I think he will provide the same level of comfort and stability that Stuart did while he was here. I would like to see something like this in about 3 years... Smith - Sproul Kronwall - Ericsson / Kindl Ouellet - Lashoff Backman

    Red Wings' Future

I was looking at Hockey's Future - Red Wings prospects and our "Prospect Talent" seems to be pretty accurate with Gustav Nyquist and Brendan Smith leading the charge, rated at 8/10, Petr Mrazek, Calle Jarnkrok, Teemu Pulkkinen, Tomas Jurco and Tomas Tatar behind them at 7.5/10. But then I looked at the "Probability Of Success" and I noticed something very obscure. Our prospects with the best chance to succeed are Brendan Smith and Rasmus Bodin... I'm not too familiar with this kid, other than we drafted him in the 6th round, 200th overall last year. He plays for Tranås AIF in Division 1 in Sweden, which is the number 2 league in Sweden under Elitserien. He's a big body at 6'6", 207lbs and is often compared to a grinding, Abdelkader type player. So why is this kid more likely to succeed than guys like Petr Mrazek, Ryan Sproul, Xavier Ouellet, Mattias Backman, Calle Jarnkrok, Teemu Pulkkinen, Tomas Jurco, Martin Frk, Gustav Nyquist, Tomas Tatar, etc, etc... Is it just because of his towering frame? Does this kid really have that much upside?... Also... 1. What prospect(s) are you most excited about? 2. What prospect(s) do you see as a dark horse? 3. What prospect(s) do you see as over rated I would say... 1. Calle Jarnkrok / Ryan Sproul 2. Andreas Athanasiou 3. Landon Ferraro

    Trade for Bogosian

I doubt Cheveldayoff is thinking that and yeah Quincey had a rough 2 games to start the season but he played really well lastnight against Dallas. He shook off the rust like most players and he made some good plays and did an outstanding job on the 2 on 1 to break up the pass and negate a sure goal. He's not as bad as most fans make him out to be.

    Trade for Bogosian

Not a bad trade but I think Nyquist will be better than Kane in 3-5 years... and as much as I want Bogosian, Staurt is a huge reason I would be in on that trade... The guy is a hitting and shot blocking machine, which we desperately need... I think Bogosian is definitely worth our 1st round pick... Sorry, typo... As well as Huskins... not Hunkins... I think this trade is very even but I'd also throw in Joey MacDonald to back up Ondrej Pavelec... What else would we need to give up? Bogo isn't worth any more than White, Kindl and a first is he? Stuart isn't worth much more than Quincey, Mursak, Tatar and MacDonald is he?...

    Trade for Bogosian

We desperately need to bolster our defence... here is my trade proposal... To Winnipeg: Ian White Kyle Quincey Jakub Kindl Jan Mursak Tomas Tatar 2013 1st round pick To Detroit: Zach Bogosian Mark Stuart 2013 3rd round pick Detroit Lineup Henrik Zetterberg - Pavel Datsyuk - Damien Brunner Johan Franzen - Valtteri Filppula - Mikael Samuelsson / Gustav Nyquist Todd Bertuzzi - Darren Helm - Patrick Eaves Dan Cleary / Drew Miller - Justin Abdelkader - Jordin Tootoo Cory Emmerton Niklas Kronwall - Jonathan Ericsson Brendan Smith - Zach Bogosian Mark Stuart - Kent Hunkins / Carlo Colaiacovo

Our Current Defense / What Holland Can Do *merged

Our defense, as it stands right now looks something like this... Kronwall / Ericsson Quincey / White Smith / Kindl We obviously need to add a 7th defenseman, but who should it be?... There are still a lot of remaining UFA defensemen, however for the most part they lack skill, youth or durability. Some of the available options include Pavel Kubina, Michal Rozsival, Jaroslav Spacek, Milan Jurcina, Carlo Colaiacovo, Scott Hannan, Brett Clark, Matt Gilroy, Chris Campoli, Kurtis Foster, Cam Barker... Not an overly impressive list, although a couple are definitely worth a look at this point. If Ken Holland does throw an offer at one of these players chances are that player will play above and beyond expectations. For whatever reason when players pull that red and white jersey with the winged wheel over their head they play at the highest level imaginable. Signing one of the above UFA's is a viable option, however I think the trade route is the more likely way to go, if nothing else because of the abundance of forwards on our roster. Our forwards, once Abby is signed looks something like this... Filppula / Datsyuk / Franzen Nyquist / Zetterberg / Samuelsson Bertuzzi / Helm / Brunner Cleary / Abdelkader / Tootoo Miller / Eaves / Mursak / Emmerton We have 16 forwards with just two on a two-way contract being able to be sent down to Grand Rapids (Gustiv Nyquist and Damien Brunner) two of which are expected to make the big club out of training camp. We clearly need to shed a couple forwards, but who should it be?... My personal opinion on players that are expendable are... Franzen (streaky player that can be a real game changer, that would have the highest return value) Miller / Eaves (great role players that are valuable to every team, that would have a decent return value) Mursak / Emmerton (players that we don't necessarily need, that could fourish with a different team) There are a few defensemen that have been rumoured to be on the move. This list includes Keith Yandle, Jay Bouwmeester, PK Subban, Dan Boyle, Mark Streit... Rumors are just that, so chances are some, if not all of these players will remian with their current teams. Sure, some are worth a phone call but I just don't see any of these players playing in Detroit next season. The most likely would probably be JayBo but I think that is a long shot as well. None of this changes the fact that we need someone to fill out our blueline. So why not go after someone that will not require so much in return. One player in particular that I would love Kenny to go after would be Travis Hamonic. The kid is just 21 years old with two years under his belt over in Long Island. In those two years he has put up reasonable number on a weak Islanders team (135 Games Played, 7 Goals, 43 Assists for 50 Points) He's a big body at 6'2", 210 lbs. and he loves to use his big frame to his advantage (288 Hits and 275 Blocked Shots) and he's a right shot that we desperately need on our blueline. I would love to have this kid, but am I being a little naive thinking that we could get him for a package something like Cory Emmerton, Jan Mursak and a later round pick (anywhere from 5th - 7th)...? I think a pairing of Brendan Smith and Travis Hamonic would be absolutely lethal in a couple years...

    My 2012-13 Roster

I just don't see us getting Parise, I think he's staying in Jersey (even with their finacial situation)... It's not about who is better Helm or Abdelkader (Helm is obviosly better), it's who fits best on which line. Abdelkader would fit better on the 3rd line with two other big bodies and Helm would be better suited on the 4th line with the energy guys with both lines seeing around the same amount of ice time, Babcock loves his energy guys...As for Flippula over Franzen, I would pick Fil over the Mule any day of the week but once again it's about who fits better on which line. Fil and Pav feeding Semin the puck, and Hank and Nyquist feeding the Mule... And yes I have a hell of a lot of money left over but I wouldn't spend to the cap if I were Kenny, because the cap is going to drop right back down after this season, so why would you want to be in the same situation the Hawks were in two years ago right after winning the cup, having no choice but to ship off players in all directions... Brad Boyes is a good player, just had an incredibly terrible year, like most of the Sabres. With a change of scenery and playing a smaller role he can return to his 60-70 points per year... Hudler is never the better option, we have our top 6 set and he doesn't fit into the bottom 6. The guy is terrible... slow, soft, and easily intimidated... If I thought we could get either Iginla or Doan I would pick either of them over Boyes. Whether you think it is or not, I believe this is a real possibility for the upcoming season. Semin is in for a huge paycut if he wants a chance to win unless he's prepared to head back to Russia to play in the KHL, which he very well may do... Boyes = Gomez.... where that logic comes from, I have no idea... Boyes could be a good fit on our 3rd line.

    Tomas Tatar

You know only something like 18-20% of players that are drafted play more than 200 games in the NHL. That is extremely low, and Im willing to bet that only about 10% of the players reach their full potential expected of them when they come into the league. Point is, that pretty much every player that is drafted is compared to a big name player. Does that mean that is the player they will become? Hell no, it simply means they have a similar style of play. That comparison is usually their ceiling but most of the players that come into the league don't play up to these high expectations. It would be impossible seeming how so many players get such rave reviews, and because of this fans like yourself think every player that comes up through the system is going to be the next big thing and we cannot part with any of our prospects. Id like to know where you heard Tatar is supposed to be like Martin St. Louis? I've heard many comparable players, none of which were St. Louis. Ive heard Milan Hejduk and Peter Bondra amoung others but that doesnt mean this kid is going to be the next any of these players, it just means they play a similar game. I would love to have a young Hejduk, Bondra, or St. Louis coming up but the chances of that being the case is slim, so to part with a few of our mediocre prospects for a couple proven players would work for me. You dont even read my posts. You keep saying that I "wanted to know about Tatar" I never once said that I wanted to know about him, I want to know why there are so many fans that think he is the next big thing coming up the pipe, because I dont think he is at all. We have much better prospects in our system. I dont know you, I dont know how much you know about hockey, and I dont know how much you follow the Wings, just like you know nothing about me. I can tell you though, I dont miss a Wings game and I watch most Griffins games and Ive also watched quite a few Sea Dogs games. Ive watched around 40 Griffins games, 10 or so Sea Dogs games, as well as most of the World Juniors, so dont try to tell me I dont have a clue about him, I bet Ive seen him and most of our top prospects play a hell of a lot more than you have. Yes hes a good player but I dont love what I see in him. I see a lot more skill and potential in some of our other prospects. And THAT is what THIS topic was about.
