Red Wings Prepared to Offer Hudler Contract

Well it looks like your dad will be seeing that new coach in Rapids! He bolted to be an Asst. with Dallas!

If we fail to reload with top UFAs we should?

This! Whether Holland gets Suter/Parise or he doesn't, the needs are still there! The Cap space is still there! The are plenty of plan B players out there that might even help us out more...

    Power Play

Agreed! With the inevitable retirement of Holmstrom, I think the Wings need to establish more 2 on 1's in front of the net instead of the one guy standing there. Seems most folks have figure that out, especially last season...get it down low, cycle, get that 2 on 1 in front of the net...

Parise and Suter - how much are they really worth?

Yes, but then Franzen only score 1 goal from March to June after that...

Why Evander Kane is Worth the Price

First of all $5M would be a 1st, 2nd & 3rd round pick... Holland would NEVER do that...Besides, I don't think many players are worth that much in compensation... He would be better than Hudler for sure, but $5M? Whew! EDIT: Of course that being said, Holland did say he would trade for "rights" if the right deal came up! If Holland indeed traded for Kane's rights then I would be very excited! I would ship a 4th, J. Andersson & J. Mursak for his rights...call me crazy!

Brad Stuart's rights traded to San Jose

I like this guy: Hey schwartzme, The Red Wings are a class act and in this act of valor toward Brad it proves to the rest of the players in the NHL that if you become a Red Wing, you are family and Devil Anse Holland takes care of his family! Shipping Brad off to a crap team at the deadline would only show other potential UFA's around the league that if for some reason you need a special favor, Holland just screws you over! But doing what Holland did in accommodating Stuart, he just proved to the NHL players, if a special circumstance arises, whatever you need I will make it happen! Work hard for me and I will work hard for you! That move is one rarely seen by any other team in the league. Brad gave Holland 3 yrs and a couple of months, including a Stanley Cup...Brad will always be a Red Wing and Holland will always be this classy! I expect nothing less from the Detroit Red Wings... Players just don't come here to play, the come here to join a family and more times than not, end their careers. Why do you think Chelios never left? He tried to have one more go at it in Atlanta, but only played 7 games and hung them up...he quickly returned "home" to the Red Wings... Holland did two things for Brad, he offered him a contract letting him know that if he wanted to stay, the Wings wanted him, then he traded him back home so he could be with his family...Brad will always be welcomed back if he so chose to, that is a guarantee! Brad has earned his Red Wings and will always be a part of this great Dynasty we have been so privileged to watch for the last 20 years!

Red Wings make contract offer to D Justin Schultz

Ya, I agree, but there is no better time than right now to rebuild the D by reloading it as well! I remember when two young rookies played together a long time ago...Konstantinov and Lidstrom, we didn't know too much about them and Vladdy was kind of small...the rest was/is History... disclaimer: I am not saying either of Smith or Schultz will be another Vladdy or Nick, but just referring back to win the team rolled the dice on two rookies...Even though they were already playing in elite leagues when they came here, but Schultz/Smith haven't been playing in too shabby of competition's either... The reward far outweighs the risk IMO...I will say that I don't think Holland WILL do this, but I would love to see it!

    Jagr staying in Philadelphia?

$1.5M and he would fill in nicely for Hudler...but he'll want $4M. Pass...

    Thinking of Buffalo Wings.....

Strange things have happened! I would say if Holland doesn't land Parise, ANYTHING is possible and something like this could happen...He needs to fill the scoring hole, and he will do that any which way he can! (Right turn Clyde) BTW: Thanks, now I AM thinking Buffalo Wings! Yummy!

Red Wings make contract offer to D Justin Schultz

in all honesty? No... It's all in how you use that 200lbs. We all know how Kronner can hit and he is only 6' 190lbs. Suter can have a bit of a snarl too. Smith has proven he will drop the gloves as will Ericsson once in a while, plus he has been coming on with the hitting too! Schultz and Dekeyser will need to grow and fill out more, but they definitely use the body more than Kindl, who I really don't want on this team. Kindl is a perfect example, you would think that at 6'3" 210lbs. he would be hard to play against, but Smith at 6'2" 195lbs. is twice as hard to play against. I will gladly take that lineup any day of the week...Grit doesn't just come from size, it comes from Heart and Desire...White holds his own, but I have a feeling this may be his last year here anyhow...

Brad Stuart's rights traded to San Jose

I think it will be quite the opposite...I remember Adam Oates early returns to Detroit, he got cheered when he scored a goal or even got an assist. Brad had said his first choice is to stay in Detroit, but it is because of the family issues (Wife not able to move here) that he must return to California. Fans will cheer him, trust me... EDIT: Lest us forget that he was one of those guys who signed a contract for LESS money to stay in Detroit for three more years...he could have left in 08', but knows which is the best organization to play for. Even when he said he had to go, they asked him which team and made a trade to allow San Jose to open up a roster spot instead of just letting July 1st come and having him deal with it on his own...Red Wings class act, from top to bottom...Take note Parise/Suter....Take note Schultz/Dekeyser/Welsh....Take note...you will not be sorry...just look at Wisniewski, he is sorry now...

If we fail to reload with top UFAs we should?

Yes, I would go for that roster too, but man do I really want to get these young studs signed in our organiztion...We always talk about the future and our youngsters and prospects...I just think this team is better off 10 years from now if they let Smith/Schultz/Dekeyser grow along with the leadership of Suter/Kronwall rather than just file holes every off season or two... EDIT: You have to remember too, if the Cap goes back down around $63M or so, having players like Schultz/Dekeyser under contract wont cause any issues like there would be with Quincey and Wideman around $4M-$5M each...We will have our top 4 defenders in Suter/Kronner/White/Ericsson there should be no issues in having two youngsters round out the top 6 long with a #7...Smith is the real deal and it seems Schultz is a close to the real deal as anyone can be...in 10 years, when Kronner and Suter are approaching a careeer, these two will be running our D...I just hope it happens!

Red Wings make contract offer to D Justin Schultz

I have been saying this for a while now...I know it is un-Holland like to go with youth on D, but I am telling you, you put Smith/Schultz together as the third pairing and keep them together, they will develop into the premier paring in the NHL withing 3-5yrs... Add Suter to this defense and you are sitting pretty for a long time...I am not sure of Ian White's plans after this season but Holland will address that as well... Suter/Kronwall White/Ericsson Smith/Schultz DeKeyser (Kindl if you keep him) That is my dream defense for this season and we will see who gets added if White leaves...I know since Holland said he is willing to make a trade for rights on draft day, who knows who will be traded, I could see anyone of Quincey, Kindl or Big E being dealt...So if E gets dealt, Sign Quincey...just as long as Schultz and DeKeyser are Red Wings property for a long, long time... EDIT: Forgot about my Obligatory mention of Jeremy Welsh who will be an RFA July 1st. I would love to see Holland deal for Welsh's, Schultz's AND Parise's rights on draft day...alot to ask? Yes, but until it doesn't happen, I can hold out hope!

If we fail to reload with top UFAs we should?

...and honestly, if Quincey were to accept the $3.125, then I guess it would be ok, but I honestly hope he is NOT a Red Wing this season...Maybe Holland would trade his rights and Kindl at the draft for something...I am hoping for Detroit three defensive signings being Suter/Schultz and then DeKeyser as #7...

Red Wings make contract offer to D Justin Schultz

if he has limited his teams to only Canadian teams, then he is stupid and doesn't really want to win anything soon...There are about 10 American teams that are poised to win a Cup WAY before any Canadian team will...Think about is Schultz, the last time a Canadian team won a Cup you were 2 years old. Vancouver has been the closest, btu are about to trade away the only reason they get to the playoffs...Good luck in Canada Justin, you will never sip from the chalice...

If we fail to reload with top UFAs we should?

Because he made $3.125M last season, Holland only has to qualify him for the same $3.125M. Because he made over $1M. Holland must qualify him for that amount to keep him from becoming a UFA, I agree he could accept that offer, but we all know he is worth more on the open market, so if Holland qualified him he remains a RFA and Quincey could sign an offer sheet of from someone and Holland has 7 days to decide whether to match or recieve the compensation... http://thehockeywriters.com/2011-12-nhl-rfa-compensation-rules/ Also, it would not benefit either of them to go to arbitration...I would hope Quincey would just be a man and go somewhere else and not hold Ken Holland hostage. I am not disagreeing that he is worth more than $3.125M but since Holland is about to attempt to spend upwards of $16M on Parise/Suter, the two draft picks are more valuable. $4M to Quincey would just be wasting Cap space when he is at best a #4/#5 defender and not part of this reload. IF Quincey gets awarded too much money and it hinders our ability to properly reload, he will immediately become the next whipping boy, especially if he plays like the hot garbage he played like last season...for the money, I'd rather keep Kindl around for $800,000 than re-sign Quincey. I can think of a few Defenders who are a better value to this team than Quincey...who can be had for less...

If we fail to reload with top UFAs we should?

Ya, either way if Holland lets Quincey go RFA, he will probably sign somewhere for around $3.5M so that means in 2013 Holland will have TWO 1st's and TWO 3rd's...Whether or not Quincey signs with a bottom dweller or a contender, it will be nice to have those picks....could be nice trade material as well! It is because of the compensation Holland would receive is why Quincey was a good pick-up. It would not be worth the 1st round pick he gave up to re-sign him, but to get a 1st AND a 3rd back would be great!

If we fail to reload with top UFAs we should?

Totally agree, he could come in here and actually become a 2nd line center allowing Pav and Z to get back together. He is definitely out of Pit soon, if Crosby signs the $9M and with Malkin due up in a couple of years there just wont be enough cash in Pit for Mr. Staal...I don't see Holland trading for him, but if he makes UFA after this season, I can imagine he would be high on the list (along with everyone else's list) to get... Just imagine this....Holland lands both Parise/Suter this year, gets Pav, Val, Helm and Abby re-signed for the rest of there career's and then lands Staal next year, I would say the future would be pretty set in Hockeytown for a long time!

If we fail to reload with top UFAs we should?

I, for the life of me, cannot see why these players want to go places that they are not going to win. Edmonton? Toronto? Canucks about ready to trade their goalie who sees that Vancouver will never win...I can think of 10 other teams outside of Detroit where this kid could go and have a winning career...but whatever. He is gonna go where he wants, but he has really a 5% chance of winning a cup in his career on a Canadian team...sorry Canadian brothers, but the truth is the truth. If these guys don't ever want to win, its on them... If you are referring to Jordan Staal, hell ya he would be great to have! He is about the only Pengwhine that I don't hate. I feel sorry for him being stuck on that team...

Why isn't the Wild in hot water for their owner's comments?

I would say if Parise ACTUALLY signs a deal with the Wild, then it should REALLY be considered tampering and there should be 29 other teams filing grievances... If Parise goes elsewhere then it won't matter. But I don't hear "friends" or other GM's out there saying that their "friends" team is going to be paying Parise the moon either, so I have to believe that it was wrong to do of Leopold's "friend" and it should be looked into by the league and the association.

Nice to see Adam Hall still making it in the NHL and at $650,000 it's a good deal.

If we fail to reload with top UFAs we should?

No matter the back up plan, he cannot include Hudler or Quincey. Hudler will garner way too much money and Quincey is worth more letting someone else sign him and getting the draft picks than what he brings to the Wings. I'd rather give Nyquist, Hudler's ice-time and re-tool the D entirely before overpaying Quincey, who at $3.125 he made last year was over-payment on this team. On the market, Hudler may be worth $5M and Quincey $4M, but not here. Let them go...We already are over-paying Ericsson for hopes he grows into his contract... I'd rather go for Schultz (also would like to see where it is said he will only play for a Canadian team) and another proven player like Wideman or Carle than overpay Quincey... Kronwall - White Ericsson - Wideman(Carle) Smith - Schultz Kindl(or another #7 if you trade Kindl) Obviously I'd rather see Suter there, but I do not want to see Quincey there no matter what. You couldn't trade him to a team for a 1st/3rd so why not let him sign somewhere and get them by default? Could be a very high 1st next year!

Parise and Suter - how much are they really worth?

unfortunately what they are worth and what they will get are two different amounts... Most July 1st's we all are glad that Holland doesn't overpay to get a player (Wisniewski) because for the most part the Wings needs are just a few plugs here and there....BUT this July 1st is going to be the first time Ken Holland has faced this much of a hole to fill on D and for the first time he will be looking to solidify an offensive future that will eventually NOT include Datsyuk or Zetterberg. So with that being said, Holland is going to HAVE TO overpay to get Parise and Suter in order to help secure the transition AND replace the best he can Lidstrom/Stuart. I am not sure how Holland will structure the cap hit for these guys, BUT I think inorder to make sure they sign here, he may have to front load the contract so they are between $8M-$10M in actually salary for a few years...I wouldn't be angry with Holland if the Cap hit was $8M for each of them. Like I said, usually he doesn't have to outbid other teams because we aren't usually in that much of a need, but today we are in need, big time. I think Holland MUST get Suter first and foremost, he is the #1 priority. Parise is 2nd...and it would be a greater lose if Holland didn't get Suter and only got Parise rather than vice-versa. If Holland doesn't get either then the Wings are in for a ruff season with all the back-up plans out there. Will they be bottom dwellers? No, but it will be a trying season. So, my answer is both should top out at a cap hit of $8M if Holland has to outbid teams, the cap hit should NOT go any higher. Salaries are different, $10M for a few years is not out of the question and I would not be upset or consider it an over-payment only because Holland has to make these deals and outbid others in the process... Priority 1: Suter
