Red Wings Sign Jordin Tootoo to 3-yr deal, $1.9M/yr

Exactly. Not sure where all the naysayers are getting this "He's an OK enforcer, but..." stuff from. I've seen him flat out pound guys into the ice who are significantly bigger than him. Sure, he's not 6' 5" but he'll do a better job of protecting guys than Bertuzzi or Abby.

Red Wings Sign Jordin Tootoo to 3-yr deal, $1.9M/yr

So why can't Helm and Tootoo play on the same line and be even more productive? It's fairly clear that you don't like Tootoo, but give the guy a chance. He wasn't signed to put up points. On a side note, I wonder if Tootoo will be allowed to wear Lebda's #22. Can't imagine he'd live up to the legacy.

Red Wings Sign Jordin Tootoo to 3-yr deal, $1.9M/yr

So far Tootoo has been very respectful of the organization and seems humbled to be here. I say give the guy a fair chance to prove himself. He does bring an element that has been missing from the lineup since Maltby left (and that Abdelkader has thus far been ineffective at producing).

    High End Trade Options

I know everyone wanted Holland to make a trade on Draft day but with the UFA bidding war set for July 1st, I don't think he wanted to take on any salary and possibly lose out on Parise or Suter, or both.

    Zach Parise

I wouldn't be surprised if Parise ended up in Pitt. He would likely be on a line with either Malkin or Crosby and I could see that being very enticing to a guy who didn't exactly have world-class centremen in NJ. I'm still hoping the Wings can sign Parise but it won't be the end of the world if they don't. Might just have to be patient, as hard as that is, and wait until next offseason when the UFA class will be much larger with better options.

    Free Agency General Rumor Thread

That would be absolute robbery for CBJ if that trade occurred. Glen Sather would likely be run out of town by an armed mob.

    NHL Awards

Turned it off after about 30 minutes. The "celebrities" who were invited to host just seemed not to care that much and if someone was writing their jokes, that person should be run out of town. The whole thing is just too long and not well done.

Is the Stanley Cup really the hardest trophy in all of pro sport?

WRs and RBs, as well as DBs and certain DEs rotate in and out throughout games so I would hardly consider them on the same page as the QBs and regular linesmen. While it is easier to be eliminated in American football, it's also easier to advance. Having to win 4 games every series in the NHL is much harder by comparison. Just ask the Kings. They had the Finals in the bag but had trouble closing out the series until Game 6.

Is the Stanley Cup really the hardest trophy in all of pro sport?

I'm assuming you're talking about the CFL. The NFL only plays 16 regular season games and then 3 or 4 post-season games max. Either way, there are only certain positions on any football team that actually play more than a couple of plays the entire game.

Brad Stuart's rights traded to San Jose

I was only speaking about Stuart and since he is a pending UFA the Wings can actually acquire someone younger. I agree that Bertuzzi should no longer be on this team but unfortunately he has that contract and would be somewhat difficult to move unless as part of a package deal.

Brad Stuart's rights traded to San Jose

He'll be missed, especially for his seemingly endless amount of goal-line plays that saved a goal. However, he is 32 (if my source is correct) and the Wings could be helped by getting younger and bigger. Glad to see him be able to continue to play for a contending team and be close to his family.

2012 SCF : Los Angeles Kings vs. New Jersey Devils

Going to the Tigers - Reds game tonight at GABP so hopefully I'll be back in time to catch the puck drop. I'll say the Kings will finish this off and become the new Stanley Cup Champions.

Vokoun moved to Pittsburgh for a 7th Round pick.

Good move for PIT. I guess Vokoun will have to play the backup role after all.

2012 SCF : Los Angeles Kings vs. New Jersey Devils

Very inconsistent reffing in these Finals so far. But hey, that's what we've come to expect from the NHL...

    In five years

In five years I imagine Smith will be in the Top 4, if not the top pairing on D. Otherwise, that roster seems accurate if based solely on prospects and current roster players.

#6 New Jersey Devils vs. #1 New York Rangers

I've heard it in minor league hockey games since forever. If I had to venture a guess I'd say it started there and worked its way up to the big leagues.

Hasek wants to play in the NHL again

If he can still play at a high enough level to be an NHL backup, then why not? Dom could probably play into his 50s and still be better than half the goalies in the league right now (I'm looking at you, Steve Mason).

    Congratulations to the LA Kings

Kind of funny that there could be a coaching rematch of the '04 Finals, albeit with different teams.

A general, how I would build a team

I'm shocked that no one has picked up on the sarcasm of this post.

    2012 World Ice Hockey Championships

That sounds like a good deal, but I just have to imagine that he only played so well because he knew that the tournament is short and European players have that reputation of caring more about International play than winning a Cup. I could be wrong and he might do well in a better run organization, but I just wouldn't get my hopes up based on one solid outing in a World Championship.

A general, how I would build a team

If I had a nickel for every new thread started about how to build this team or who we should add in the offseason, I'd be able to buy the Phoenix Coyotes.

Suter most likely out of Nashville

Parise is also great along the boards, goes to the net and has a fantastic shot. Yeah, we don't need someone like that...

    2011-2012 Jack Adams nominees

Hitchcock will most likely win the award, but I think it's a shame that Dave Tippett didn't get a nomination. Torts is a good coach and all, but he's already won the award and had a pretty stacked team for most of the year. The Coyotes don't really have a core of "superstar" players and managed to end up #3 in the West.

Report: Luongo officially requests trade out of Vancouver

Makes sense. I wonder if a combination of Sam Gagner and a draft pick or two would get the job done.

#6 New Jersey Devils vs. #5 Philadelphia Flyers

    Butterpillar. That is all.
