Lang on the block?

we'd be more then just fine without him , we can fill up his spot with filppula or hudler and get them some actual playing time rather then bringing them all in one shot along with grigorenko

plus we got guys like williams and samuelsson whos proven they can step it up

lets face it our biggest problem is our defense , besides lidstrom and schneider our defensive is ok but not great, and aging , plus the loss of fischer was a big blow .....we need a really good defencemen in their early thirties max so we have at least something to look forward for the next few years

lang can always be replaced

how about lang for....

-ryan smyth?

-chris pronger (doubtful but we can dream!)

-mike peca (having a terrible season, but he may just need a change of scenery)

-ohland

Smyth we can't get.

Pronger we can't get, or afford.

Ohlund we can't get.

Peca we CAN get, but for that reason we don't want.

peace

Peca Are you right in the head? Do you even know what peca makes?

Peca 3.99 MIL and has 14 pts in 37gp

Lang makes 3.8 MIL and has 32 pts in 33 games 6pts in last 4gp

No thanks!

I rather have a player like Bell or Witt. Not straight up of course.

Lang is one of my favorite Wings, but I wouldn't be opposed to trading him to fill our needs.

When you just look at the facts, it actually makes a lot of sense for us to move him. We have plenty of scoring power in the lineup already, plus we have Hudler, Filppula and soon to be Grigorenko waiting in the wings for a chance. Also, Lang is most effective at center, and we have an abundance of young talented centers who can easily take his place. Lang is also 35 years-ild, and while he's still an effective player for us, he's not getting any younger, and in a couple of years he wont exactly fit in with the young core of forwards we are developing. On the other end of the ice, we have a lack of physical defensemen, even before we lost Fischer. That lack is even more obvious now.

So when you have an abundance of one commodity (scoring forwards, specifically centers) and a shortness of another (defensemen), then it makes sense to trade one of your abundant commodities for one which fills your need.

I hate saying this just one game after Lang scores and Zetterberg gets 4 points playing Wing, but Lang should be traded before the playoffs.

Zetterberg should be playing center fulltime and Lang is the only thing stopping that. His salary is still affordable and a lot of teams are looking for a #1 center, we should be able to get a good return for him. Phoenix and Calgary come to mind, though what we'd get in return I have no clue.

before even hearing these rumors, i've been speculating and bitching to my wife for weeks as we watch the wings about "lazy lang." the guy loafs and floats around all game, looking for a cheap cherry-pick points. i can't believe babcock hasn't benched his butt yet!

really, if the wings could get a top-4 defenseman for him a bag of pucks, i'd do the deal in a heartbeat.

I completely agree. Lang fits in nowhere on this team and only serves to screw the lines up right now. He'd be a good fit if a) the Wings didn't have two of the best play-making centers in hockey under the age of 27, and b ) if the Wings didn't emphasize defensive play. Let's face it, he has great hands, can use his size when he wants to but mostly is Ray Sheppard at center; slow, lazy and opportunistic around the net.

I also agree Pheonix is a good place to start looking to make a deal. Gretzky needs a veteran centerman to sure up his roster, they have a glut of young, big players and some good defensemen as well (Paul Mara anyone). The Wings clearly need a scoring winger with size and a mobile, stay-at-home d-man who can move the puck a bit. Easy to say, harder to acquire. I would opine they swing a deal with the Blackhawks for Aucoin or St. Louis for Brewer. Rumors abound from both cities they are available for the right price and both teams are young, terrible and in need of a talented, veteran centerman.

They had a veteran center in Petr Nedved, but Nedved wasn't doing the job like they exspected him to.

So now, why would they want another one. I know Lang is still good, but the trust of having a veteran center might not be there anymore, and they might now want to go with their young core.

I for one don't think Lang's that bad, but again, I'll just be ripped on for saying that, and I don't think changes are needed at the moment.
