Holy crap! I went home for the weekend, and forgot that FSU was still playing hockey. This weekend they spilt with ND!! I don't even think U-M or MSU can say they did that this year.

Michigan got swept but MSU split. They lost 4-1 in South Bend but shut out the Irish at home 2-0.

after friday,

nebraska-omaha leads 1 game to none over bowling green after winning 3-2 in ot.

ohio state leads 1 game to none over northern after winning 6-2. :(

ferris state leads 1 game to none over lake state after winning 4-3 in ot.

alaska (fairbanks) leads 1 game to none over western after winning 3-2 in ot. :yowza:

the alaska game was amazing to listen to. they scored twice within the last two minutes to send the game into overtime. go nanooks! now, if only northern knew how to win via comeback.

Seeing the Lakers lose in overtime was a real heartbreaker. But they did get outplayed BADLY in the overtime period and Jakaitis saved them from losing earlier. But still the goal he gave up was a stoppable shot especially since he made tougher saves earlier in overtime. Oh well, I hope the Lakers win tonight and force a Game three.

Go Bucks! Looked pretty good last night...here's hoping the magic stays alive in the old ice arena.

sounded like they played well... <_<

anyway, i was wondering, what did you think of the olver kneeing penalty? there's was some confusion about it across the radio, and since i couldn't see it, i don't really know what to think. i know it was a 5 min. major, but not a game misconduct, although it was first ruled as one. olver's not really a hitter or even someone who takes cheap shots (which makes a blatant knee odd, especially since he's had leg issues before), at worst, he's a diver. any light you can shed is appreciated.

-Bowling Green played much better than I expected. Of course I'm not really impressed with Nebraska anyways. How they got in the NCAA tournament last year baffles me. Nebraska will play Michigan State in the next round.

-Great job by Northern Michigan. Surprised that they stared their back-up goalie instead of Zaniboni. THat was a gutsy move by Walt Kyle, but it paid off.

-Great job by my Lakers. They played a much better third period last night than Friday. The seniors really picked it up and they were actually good on the power-play. Once again, it wasn't Jakaitis's best night so he'll have to be better tonight if they advance to round two.

-I had a feeling Western would come back and tie the series up. They've been on a roll late in the season so I expect them to win tonight against Alaska.

i agree. there's no way nebraska makes it past state this year. according to their fans, they're pretty beat up, too. Apparently, Parse is having muscle spasms in his leg, Charleston hurt his knee or ankle, Uotila has something wrong with his leg, and Angell is hurt. doesn't sound good for the mavericks.

i'm a little surprised, but not too much. zani's always had problems with ohio state, and stewie did well after bill was pulled on friday. stewie's going to start tonight, too. go 'cats!

it's looking like one hell of a series over there in the soo. good luck to the lakers, i'm usually not a fan, but i like to see the u.p. do well, and i'm even less of a ferris fan :D

i had the same feeling, unfortunately. i'm just hoping culhane's habit of shortening the bronco bench at the end of the game tires them out (especially after 3 games). i'm really hoping the 'nooks pull off the upset, if they can limit the shorthanded chances/goals for western, they should make a good game of it.

What a night! Lakers FINALLY!! win a playoff series!! Their first playoff series since 1995-1996, eleven years ago, back when they were a college hockey powerhouse. They actually learned to scored on the power-play the past two games, clicking at 33 percent. Also Jakaitis played his best game this series, but he'll have to play this good or better the two or three games at Miami.

Great to see Northern Michigan win, since it's a UP team and I disliike Ohio State. I sure hope they beat T.J. HenSUCK and MIchigan next weekend. Michigan is my least favorite team in college hockey. Sure hope the Cats pull off the upset. Also question for hawkupaloogie: is Santorelli up for Hobey Baker?

Also nice to see Alaska pull the upset over Alaska. Too bad they'll have no chance against Notre Dame.

Second round predictions:

#1Notre Dame sweeps #11Alaska

#2 Michigan sweeps #10 Northern Michigan

#3 Miami beats #8 Lake Superior in three

#4 Michigan State beats #5 Nebraska in three

Hope I'm wrong with LSSU and NMU. Can't wait until then.

my completely baseless predictions (a.k.a. what i want to happen):

nebraska sweeps bowling green

alaska beats western in three

northern beats ohio state in three

lake state sweeps ferris

wow, i was close! only missed the lssu/ferris series by a game...why can't my weekend picks go this well?

michigan's beatable at home this year, so, if the stars align, i'm hoping northern can pull this series out. we split at yost during the regular season. this was probably the best match up of the bye week teams northern could've have had. i'm not sure if santos is up for hobey officially, the ten finalists come out in a few weeks. walt kyle (northern's coach) has talked about it, saying that he'd be shocked if mike hasn't been considered. he's definitely deserving, he's dragged the 'cats along kicking and screaming for some games (luckily, not against ohio state, the whole team's stepped it up).

for anyone who missed it, after sunday night, lssu, northern and alaska are advance after beating ferris state, ohio state and western (respectively).

round two of my completely baseless predictions:

alaska beats notre dame in three (pipe dream, i know, but i love the nanooks)

northern beats michigan in three (slightly less of a pipe dream, but still one, nonetheless)

lake state beats miami in three (miami was hurting at the end of their season, they're takeable, go get 'em lakers)

state sweeps nebraska (i don't really care who wins)

Wow way to show repect to a Hobey canidate. Even if Jakatis (who I love) is on his game T.J. can light you up. Yost is a pain in the ass to play at I doubt LSSU pulls it out. You ended my Bulldogs season, but not my Wolverines

Actually Northern Michigan plays Michigan not LSSU. The Lakers play Miami.

BTW, Jakaitis got snubbed out the CCHA First team.

not to downplay jakaitis, but it's not like brown is a bad choice. he led the ccha (if i remember properly, i can't get to my normal stats source) in save percentage, wins, and shutouts. he's also #2 on cstv's latest top ten hobey baker watch list. jakaitis isn't even on their list, which i find a bit surprising, but they've got a lot of ccha-ers on there, which might've discouraged another. i realize that jakaitis plays on a worse team, and is probably more important to his team because of that. i'm also aware that he's played more minutes and has a better gaa (i might have save % and gaa reversed here, not sure). frankly, i haven't seen enough of both goalies inorder to say who's better. all i know is that the other coaches in the ccha pick the team, and they have seen both play. in any case, i'm glad to see santos on there.

as far as this weekend goes, the 'cats will definitely have to contain hensick's line, play hard-nosed, physical hockey and get scoring from a mix of players. if they do that, they'll at least push this series to three games. northern's been one of the most successful visiting teams at yost in the nation, so, i'm hoping for another upset.

GO CATS!

*edit* wow, the yellow's hard to see, there....

I've never seen Brown play all year...they never came to FSU, or were on TV, but I still think Jakatis is the CCHA's best goalie.

My goalie rankings-

1) Jakatis

2) Lerg

3) Brown

4) O'Keefe (stats don't show it, but he's a good goalie)

Should be some good games tonight.

It bothered me that Brian Lerg never even got any Hobey consideration. I wouldn't call him the front runner, but I thought his name should have at least been mentioned.

I'm so proud of My Lakers! They pull the upset and beat Miami 2-1. Jakaitis proved he's better than Brown, stopping 37 of 38 shots, stopping Miami's high powered offense of Davis and Jones. This win also marks LSSU first 20 win season since 1995-1996. WOW!!
