theman19 47 Report post Posted February 8, 2007 so after doing some research i found this little nugget, evidently the mexican coach says rather underhandledly that the americans cheated by playing sound defensive soccer "They were a little opportunistic and stayed in their own end for the majority of the match, but they did beat us," Marquez said. "Considering the tactics that they utilized, I think that is the credit I would give them considering the fact that on the field, they were not superior to us." that's like babcock getting on cbc after the oilers beat us last year and saying the cheated because they used the trap,..i mean we where obviously the better team. That's why i could never watch soccer, people don't realize it's a game sometimes
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted February 8, 2007 The game is a big deal to hispanics, especially whenever they play the U.S. I didn't watch the game but Mexico has, more often than not, been regarded as a very good soccer nation, at least to me. Not the best like you would think with Brazil, Italy, England, etc., but they are probably in that 2nd tier. The U.S. isn't regarded as such more often than not, but the national teams have slowly worked their way up to respectability and while they won't beat the big countries more often than not, it'll be rare that they will be dominated either. U.S. also beat Mexico in the quarterfinals of the 2002 World Cup in Korea/Japan, a game that pretty much any Mexican probably guaranteed victory. They will always be bitter for that loss, for better/worse. It's not really arrogance by the fans or players, it is just a big, big, big deal to them, like life/death. mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted February 8, 2007 That was a great game. You see Dirty Shanchez try to trip our player after Donavan scored? That guy was classless
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted February 8, 2007 I hate the Mexico soccer team. I didn't realize we had a friendly against them - if I did, I'd have paid more attention. Their fans are some of the worst in the whole world, and I was thrilled to see them lose in the first round of elimination at the World Cup.
