Lilja throws a great hit on Gagne, and then I believe it was Gauthier who came after him for doing so? And Lilja f-ing TURTLES and is holding his hands above his head. Now I know Dennis came from behind but DO YOU HAVE TO BE SUCH A WUSS? Get the hell up and DEFEND yourself. Also..the fact that NONE of the Wings on the ice at the time even TRIED to help Lilja out pisses me the hell off. He's your teammate..DO SOMETHING. And then the hit on Joey. STICK UP FOR HIM TOO. Wings were absolutely man handled in the first and im getting very much sick of it. I'm sick of teams thinking they can take full advantage of the Wings with their physicality and grit while the Wings just stand there, taking crap from the teams and doing absolutely nothing about. I swear if Holland does not address this before the deadline..I'll probably scream. I want our Wings to be TOUGH and be able to play TOUGH with the big boys and physical teams in the league. Who CAN go after the opposition?? We simply cannot have our guys going after heavyweights simply to "make a statement" which would probably be that even if any of our guys DID try and fight, theyd get hammered. I dont remember, but I remember they both had their gloves off after the whistle with the refs breaking it up... Too bad. Lilja's gotten in a few fights in the NHL, I see. I would really love him to start working out/do whatever it takes to get into "fighting" shape and maybe start being a mini-enforcer.. I really dont know why he wouldnt try? Just combinging the trade rumours ... geez, apparentely Nashville is in the Forsberg mix w/ potentially Radulov. That seems like a lot more than we could give. Yeah effing Lilja turtled and on the ensuing power play PHILLY scored shorthanded...and they ran over Mac Yeah that pretty much covers it. Oh...and Hank got an assist on Homer's goal. Holland forgot that we had to get away from all the pretty and get gritty players to win the 97 and 98 cups. In 02 we had so much talent that it didnt matter, and we still had Mac and Shanny if need be. Now we have absolutely no one...maybe Josh Langfeld? Please... I remember last season there was talk about how the Red Wings specifically told Kronwall - after he came back from his injury - not to throw any big hits because they didnt want him to get injured again. I wouldnt be surprised if they're saying that to all the defenseman. None of them are bona fide fighters so they probably tell them not to get involved. HOWEVER, the one guy who I really cant excuse for his seeming disinterest in scrums and roughing is Franzen. Hes a big solid boy. I wonder if hes softened up a bit after his injury.
