Hank 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2007 It's not really that important, but as a nitpick, Larry Murphy didn't join the team until the trade deadline that year. But what did the Wings give up for him? Nobody from the main core. I would absolutely shocked if Holland dealt anyone that was a main component of this team. Outside of Kopecky, Franzen and maybe Hudler, he will not deal any of our top 9 forward and top 4-5 defenseman. The closest guy to the 'core' that might be dealt is Leilja. Lang will be employed by the Wings until June 30th. Anythings possible of course, but unless Lang is being a major pain in the dressing room or if Hollands gets a deal he simply can't refuse (eg. Lang for Souray), don't expect him to go anywhere.

Zeke 5 Report post Posted February 13, 2007 I know Bobby Smith who coached Tkachuk years ago. From his experiences, this guy is a total jerk and a cancer on the team. He's the last guy we need, not to mention his skill set is greatly diminished.

He's the last guy we need? a big winger who scores goals and is willing to go to the net? If not Tkachuk, then who do we need?

We need a team player who gives his all in the playoffs and can be had for a decent price.A solid rental player like Gary Roberts can be picked up for a third pick, maybe a second at most.He wants to be close to his family in Toronto,so why not play for a contender for a few months? Tkachuk is what the Wings need, Roberts isn't. Some on here were saying that Keith being 34 is old and washed up..yet lets bring in a 40 year old who's best playing days are behind him. Not to mention the fact that he is often injured. Edited February 13, 2007 by hockeycrazy3033

He's what I would go for. 34 years old isn't that bad. We do have guys in the 40's.

Tkachuk is a big name player, but he hasn't impressed me in years. His price will be high because St.Louis will not want to send him to a divisional rival. Gary Roberts is from the east and I read that he can be had for a third. I know he's 40,but he's a heart and soul player when it counts.(a la Yzerman style) Last time I checked,Chelios was 45. He is playing way solid defence.
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted February 14, 2007 His price will be high because St.Louis will not want to send him to a divisional rival. Was that what Chicago was thinking when they traded Chelios? Or Colorado and Calgary during the Theo Fleury, Tanguay/Leopold trades? Or Phoenix and Dallas in the Nagy deal?

He is playing way solid defence. Chelios is a 4th/5th defenseman in the NHL right now. He's a former perennial Norris trophy contender. Roberts used to be the best left winger in hockey. That was 15 years ago. Now, Roberts is a good depth player, but he won't turn a team into champions if they aren't already close. Most who would say yes to Roberts believe the Wings are not close...which makes it a pointless trade if it's the big deadline move. Personally, I feel the Wings only have to make one or two minor adjustments unless a great deal is presented. Roberts is not any of that. Hmmm...something could happen in the next 3-5 days? Zeke 5 Report post Posted February 14, 2007 Agree. Don't want Roberts, but someone like his old self. peace, esteef I don't think that Roberts is the missing piece, but can be a significant contributing factor. If he has flashes of his past, such as his hat trick in Toronto this year, then we can use him. He will stick up for his teammates, and elevates his game in the playoffs.I would take him as a 4 month rental for a 3rd pick.He goes to the net, into corners, and is not a floater. I believe he has that enough left in the tank to change the complexion of our team for the better.
