Our second line is awesome.

They have combined for a total of...

twelve points in seventeen games. Datsyuk and Zetterberg had eighteen in three games alone before the Nashville game. That's amazingly ridiculous. I cannot wait until the offseason so that we no longer have to look at Lang jerking off everytime he's on the ice instead of creating opportunities.

This can only get worse now that Cleary is out.

Cleary should not be on the second line, considering he's not a second line player. His hot streak was really only that. I highly doubt he'll get on a roll like that again. He's a defensive minded forward, kinda like Bates Battaglia on Toronto. I like Dan Cleary, but he's not a second line player.

And Lang... Well, he's lazy and he sucks. What more can be said? :P

Samuelsson - Filpulla - Hudler would word IMO as 2nd line

However, it won't happen.

Lang makes too much money to be put on 3rd or 4th line or benched.

Right. I like Cleary, but he should be on the 3rd or 4th line. Lang should be skating with Hudler, not Cleary. Almost all of Cleary's goals are rebounds or tip ins, he doesn't create scoring chances, and shouldn't be considered a 2nd line guy.

It would be like putting Maltby on the 2nd line after scoring 14 goals in 1997-98.

Couldn't disagree more, Lang needs to be on the second line or off the team, as much as I hate to say it.

I see that Franzen is trying harder then anyone else right now, so he belongs on the second line, as he had as many scoring chances as anyone against Nashville. He could one day be better then Holmstrom, and his effort is enough now. I assume that Sam will round out the second line, and until then Filpula needs to be given a chance.

Personally I think that Drapes and Cleary should be on the third line and get moved up to replace anyone that slacks off on the second line. This should be the case because these guys are Defensive minded first, offensive second, which is more important on that third line.

Holland needs to work a deal to dump Lang so we can get a power forward. Lang is almost as useless as Osgood. At least Ozzie is cheaper. I agree that Hudler and Filpula need more ice time. Maybe with Cleary being out one of those two might move up a notch. Do something Holland!

....

Please, reality check. I think we can both agree that, if the possibility arose, Holland would jump at it. I can guarantee you that Holland has not been voiding deals because he's unwilling to give up Lang.

It's easy to sit around in a forum and talk about how "Holland needs to do something," but at the end of the day things aren't that simple.

Don't take those rebounds or tip-ins for granted. Not many players can convert goals like that as well as Cleary can.

Yzerman said the same type of thing a few months into the season. He commented that being a GM can look easy on the outside, but actually seeing what's inolved, it's really tough.

There's 29 other GM's wanting to better their team just like the Wings, everything won't go as planned. Sometimes we need to just take what we can get or just do nothing.

I know, but players like that can go through long stretches where they don't score. A lot of those goals can be luck, getting a good break/bounce, or being at the right place at the right time. I'm really not surprised Cleary has stopped scoring.
