SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted March 14, 2007 Yes, but they all migrated from the South in the first place. Boy, did Nacshville look lame tonight. Refs all byt blowing them all night with s***ty calls on the WIngs and we still beat them 5-2. Nashville is over rated. You don't become 1st in your division by mistake. They are not overrated. KronwallCRUNCH 5 Report post Posted March 14, 2007 You don't become 1st in your division by mistake. They are not overrated. Interesting, because that's what critics have been saying about Detroit for the past decade.
Vincanni 1 Report post Posted March 14, 2007 Nashville is over rated. In an attempt not to sully what we did tonight I'm gonna definitely have to disagree. The tore up the NHL on their last road trip while bearing nearly as ravaged with injuries as ourselves. I feel we might just be a bit better than alot of our fans and critics give us credit for. Really it's the mediocre teams that seem to give us fits, we seem to be matching up well against the elite.
Bluedevils_13 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2007 actually. "The Plan" was to build a strong core through the draft and then when the team was strong enough, add free agents to put us over the top. So really, you can't argue with it. Legwand, Hartnell, Erat, Radulov, Tootoo, Hamhuis, Weber, Suter, Zanon through the draft. Timonen and Vokoun from the expansion draft. And really, Sullivan, Vishnevski and Forsberg were brought in through trades. Sullivan for two picks, Forsberg for two picks and two prospects (that the preds drafted) and Vishnevski was brought in for Eric Belanger, who was brought in for Josef Vasicek who was brought in for Scott Walker who was from the expansion draft. So those guys are technically part of "building through the draft". Ya, I didn't really mean much by it, just throwing that out there. I don't really like Nashville per se, but I do respect you guys as a good team, and actually like alot(well some) of the players.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted March 14, 2007 Interesting, because that's what critics have been saying about Detroit for the past decade. And the Wings have won three Cups the past decade. I'd hardly think that's overrated either, in-spite of a few early round playoff exits. Devils have won a fair amount of Cups recently as well, but they missed the playoffs completely after winning the Cup one year and have had a few early playoff exits as well. Does that make them overrated for roughly 10 years?
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted March 14, 2007 When Sullivan and Hartnell (and I guess Erat now) get back, and if Forsberg gets back, they'll be a force again. It speaks to the depth of both orginizations that they've remained competitive despite injury woes.
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted March 14, 2007 I don't think Nashville is over-rated. Even though there are currently three players, at least, whom I absolutely detest on the team, I can concede to talent when I see it. You don't get to the top spot and stay there (for now) by being over-rated, IMHO. Ask the Red Wings, if you don't believe me!

The others are role players who could be gotten anywhere. It's not like the Preds went out and bought this team if thats where you're going. The team was build exactly the way that we were told that it would be built since day 1. Well, it IS the stereotype of southern folks (by the way, only east tennessee is in the mountains), and there's no use trying to gloss it over, a fair share of southerners do fit that stereotype to a T. But come on, it's not like the don't exist in Michigan. Get outside of the metro area and surrounding suburbs, and Michigan gets really hick, really fast. I think we need a class profiling lesson: There is a difference between White Trash and Hicks. Interesting, because that's what critics have been saying about Detroit for the past decade. Yes, because 3 cups in the last decade has been accomplished by SO many NHL teams. ...but Nashville's not overrated. Thats kind of an embarassing statement to make. Theyre a great team. They might even be better than Detroit...
ZatasGirl40 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2007 It's sweet to see that so many of them hate us because we're so god damn awesome. But at the same time hating Cheli and Lidstrom is a big no no in my book. Overrated my ass.

But at the same time hating Cheli and Lidstrom is a big no no in my book. Overrated my ass. I wouldn't worry about that. That is similar to me saying Florida sucks and is overrated as a Buckeye fan. Florida kicked the crap out of the Buckeyes, just like the Wings have this tendency to do to the Preds Sour grapes and all that.....
Wingsfan31 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2007 The Preds are doing the same thing the Wings did in the lat 80's/early 90's. You build through the draft, trade assets you do not need for those you do and hope you strike the iron while it's hot. The Pred's biggest foe right, IMO, is the salary cap. The Wings had the luxury of paying their drafted players what was needed to keep them around. This kept the core together and allow the Wings, IMO, to win the '98 and '02 Cups. I give full marks to Poile, Trotz and the Nashville organization. They have followed the Tampa Bay model to perfection and are seeing the same results.
