Calgary's Biggest Advantage

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

If Detroit can't win it in 5, game 6 in Calgary can almost guarantee a loss, given that it will be a back-to-back game in Western Canada. I noticed the only other series with back-to-back games are the Sens/Penguins and the Rangers/Thrashers, and that's games 6 and 7, if it goes that far.

Big advantage for Calgary, woudn't you say? That, and Kipper, of course.

It hurts whoever loses game 5 I think. It sucks for both team. It couldn't be games 3&4 or something? I really don't see it making a difference so I don't know why they did it. Why does game 6 have to be sunday? whatever. what do I know right? But like I said I don't think its the Flames advantage if anything it sucks for both teams if any advantage, like I said, its to the team who loses game 5. IMO

I am glad someone else noticed this. It is a huge advantage for Calgary. They basically get 3 out 4 games in Calgary in six days (with a back to back). If the Wings do not get both at home to start.....we are in real big trouble. And if we do lose....to hell with the NHL for scheduling this way.

Back to back games in the playoffs are rediculous. Every team should get a day off in between playoff games. This is bulls***. Especially given the distance travelled between the 2 cities. Nice scheduling by the NHL, what a joke!

Yeah this whole back to back games thing is a joke. Who were the idiots that schedualed that....

It just puts that much more importance on coming out strong and winning the first two at home.

Its stupid scheduling I agree with everyone there but its not going to cause any team to win or lose. Like I said I believe it is an advantage if you win the game before because you want to keep that momentum rolling. But if people blame this on the wings losing that really stupid. If they are down 3-2 going into game 5 and lose they lost because they lost 3 games before that game 6.

The game is on Sunday because NBC had a time slot to fill at 1:00 p.m and they wanted the Wings game, so the schedule was built around that.

Totally stupid, but true.

I hear what you're saying, but even if this series does go to 6 games, what if the Wings win game 5 in dramatic fashion? Having to play right away the next day might give the Flames a mental setback. You could look at this either way.

Here's hoping the Wings win it in 5. :sly:

i just cant wait for the series to start , im just so fed up of reading all these sites about how the flames will get us out

What sites are talking about? The HNIC ones?

There aren't as many as you lead us to believe that are picking Calgary. There are some, but not an overwhelming amount.

But the wings aren't on NBC on Sunday. They are on NBC on Saturday at JLA. they are on Versus. So playing game 6 sunday makes no sense.

Game 1 -- Thursday at Detroit, 7 p.m., Versus, CBC

Game 2 -- Sunday at Detroit, 1 p.m., NBC, CBC

Game 3 -- Tuesday, April 17 at Calgary, 10 p.m., Versus, CBC

Game 4 -- Thursday, April 19 at Calgary, TBD, Versus, CBC

x-Game 5 -- Saturday, April 21 at Detroit, 3 p.m., NBC, CBC

x-Game 6 -- Sunday, April 22 at Calgary, TBD, Versus, CBC

x-Game 7 -- Tuesday, April 24 at Detroit, TBD, Versus, CBC

The series ends in 5 so this is a moot point.

I hope you're right.

I'm sure the arenas and their activities may have something to do with this, but I agree this definitely makes game 5 a must-win for both teams.

I disagree. We all know how poorly the Wings play out West, and granted they won't go far if they can't win on the road, but the oldest team in the league and back-to-back games are not a recipe for instant success. I see Kronwall's loss as even bigger now, especially if Zetterberg doesn't last long in the playoffs.

They aren't the oldest team in the league though. Their average age is 29.5. If thats the oldest then that sucks. I mean it hurts that they will have to play the next day. But just try not to put yourself down 3-2 and I don't think its tas big of a deal.

STOP IT!!!STOP IT!!!sTOP IT!!!

MY Wings won the West...They are the most dominant franchise in recent NHL history. They have a bunch of hall-of-famers and the other talent is excellent. Their goalies are two of the best in the league. STOP WORRYING ABOUT WHAT CALGARY'S GONNA DO TO US AND START MAKING CALGARY WORRY ABOUT WHAT'S GOING TO BE INFLICTED ON THEM!!! (with all due credit to General Patton.) :yowza:

Oddly, I think the flames won the second game of every one of their back to backs this year. Close to it anyway.

On the flipside, the Flames are horrible in afternoon games. Always have been it seems, and game 2 is a morning game for us no less. If the schedule makers did calgary any favours with the back to back set, it was more than made up for on the afternoon games.

Perhaps when the scheduel was being made the finalists weren't determined yet, but yeah. Hella-rediculous considering the distance. This isn't two teams geographically close. I know it affects both teams equilly having to travel like that. But still ...

Well yes, Flames did suck in Afternoon games....until the last Chicago one...they did win

That was when they turned there road record around and won 2 at home (against Preds\and wings)

and then won the 4 in a row on the road

The sunday game here,on TV comes on at 11:00 am....like I don't like to sleep in on a Sunday

I hate Afternoon games, I can Imagine how the players feel about it.
