NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted April 24, 2007 (edited) Problem with green bay though is the lack of hockey programs. A friend of mine had to travel to Negaunee, Mi just to play in a tournament. That changes of course the closer you get to the twin cities, coverage of the Wild etc... Wisconsin is a football state, not enough pull for hockey I know. That was the point of my post. I've often told peole that argue to have an NHL team brought to Milwaukee that they're crazy. I would love it, but for some reason the peanut butter (Wisconsin) inbetween the two slices of bread (Michigan, Minnesota) isn't part of the sandwhich. Aside from NFM#25, there just isn't enough fan support in Wisconsin. Oh well, Atleast I can drive to either Chicago or Minnesota in less 4 hours to catch games. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted April 25, 2007 I can certainly relate to an good extent. I live in the last place a hockey franchise would re-locate and I know of only one bar (a very good one at that) around here that will show hockey games, but I'm sure there are a few others. Take it for what it's worth...for game 4 my cable company for some reason was having problems showing VS, so I had to go to this sports bar to watch the game where they have Direct TV. I haven't been there for months at the time, and when I got there about 10 minutes before the puck dropped, VS was on the plasma TV you stare straight at while entering, and on a fair amount of other televisions as well. I was a bit surprised I didn't have to ask for the game to be put on. So, it's tough yes, but there's probably more attention given to the sport than we might give credit for, even if it's a small amount.
auxlepli 17 Report post Posted April 25, 2007 Poor hockey coverage is why I want to move to Canada, preferably Windsor. If not there then Detroit, Buffalo, Sault Ste Marie, or just aboot anywhere in Minnesota or Michigan.
KYwingfan14 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2007 I live in Kentucky where absolutely NO ONE cares about hockey...I dont even bother to watch a game at a bar, first off because no one wants to watch hockey..secondly, versus is a channel that a lot of people and businesses dont have, which is a damn shame. Thank god for hockey over the internet....speaking of that, I believe NHL Centerice is coming out with a package that you can purchase and watch on your computer over the internet (for those of us who cant get satellite)
redwing711 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2007 The poor coverage in the US is why I have center ice. The problem is that the poor coverage in the US is only going to make the sport less popular here. Those people that are casual fans won't pay for center ice, so they just forget about hockey and move on to something else. The sport won't draw any new fans that way either. And there are new fans out there to be had. I had never seen a hockey game until about 10 years ago. Now my friends refer to me as a hockey junkie, because once hockey season starts it takes precedence over everything else and live comes to complete halt once the playoffs begin. I have a friend who has 2 young boys. My friend and her husband do not like hockey, but the grandparents take the boys to see UHL games. If they could watch hockey without their parents having to pay for it, they probably would and would probably grow into adult fans.
ILWingsFan1 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2007 (edited) Coverage totally sucks here. Unless it's one of the handful of games NBC decides to show, I have to settle for listening to the games over the Internet. My cable company offiered Center Ice one year only, the year before the lockout I think. Of course they offer packages for basketball and football, but not for the only sport that matters. And last series really sucked. For some reason I couldn't get the games through Detroit, so I had to listen to Calgary's radio. I didn't want to hear their goal celebrations, dangit! The poor coverage in the US is why I have center ice. The problem is that the poor coverage in the US is only going to make the sport less popular here. GiantRobot 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2007 Why has hockey suck to the depth of the american sports scene to the point that it is not even covered anymore. Anyone can buy their kid a basketball, glove and bat, or a football. "Run outside and play now." That isnt the case with hockey. Hockey is really expensive, new pads and equipment all of the time...It's kind of an "Elite" sport, in the cost sense. I think though that if VS. could go national, and be in the same amount of homes ESPN is, not to mention showing games 5 out of 7 nights a week, things would get better.
