But the Sharks have no flaws. Basically it's 4 1st lines, 2 starting goalies, and 6 Norris caliber dmen. How can they lose one?

Yeah or that one where they owned the sharks all game and they got lucky to win in O.T. Or that other crazy one, where the Sharks got there ass kicked and Radulov got that hat trick?

If you're gonna talk about the series, at least talk sense. The 2 OT game, the Preds had to pull their goalie for nearly 1.5 minutes just to get the tying goal. Game 2 they won, featured some ungodly number of penalty minutes. 145 I think.

The next 3 games were not close. the Sharks controlled the action and hit 13 posts in 3 games...

I always leave room for one game where something weird happens. Like that one game in the Preds series where there were like 1000 penalty minutes...

Had season tix for 2 years before I moved away. It's loud. VERY loud. Usually ranks in the top 3 loudest arenas in the league. The ice is AWFUL. Usually rated in the bottom 4 or 5. The puck will take more than it's fair share of weird bounces off the boards, and the glass seems to break more at the tank than in other places, but maybe that's cuz I see it more often.

Sightlines are VERY good and the 2nd deck is very steep.

Hard to believe the Tank is the 7th oldest barn in the league.

What else would you like to know...?

What's the average size of the Sharks up front?

I'm glad you brought up the ice. For a team that skates so well, the slow ice doesn't seem to hamper them.

So, Sharks in 5, eh? I don't think it's a stretch to suggest a Sharks win in this series, but picking them in 5 makes you more ambitious than most. You gonna stick around if that pick doesn't pan out, or will you disappear?

"resistance is futile" :withstupid: Sharks in 5, only reason they ever lose is do to circumstance out of their control. Refs, weather, alien envasion.

Lets go boys...

The difference tonight is going to be Hasek. He needs to be sharp, and if he is, we take this one 3-1

Sharks 4-1. For some reason I see goals by our defensemen. McLaren with one. Rivet with one, Carle with one...

Only 4-1?!? :o I was thinking 8-2 9-1 or something. You know how they've been studying that 9-4 game on a loop and stuff. I mean, I'm not sure that some of the Wings will even take the ice. I mean Homer Z and Lebda are already faking injuries. I'm sure Cheli and Bert will follow soon. I mean can you blame them with the "mack trucks" these young, big, speedy, tough, gritty, skilled, cool colored jersey wearing, ufc fighting, football offensive lining, 5 game sweeping, super human athletes these big guys play like?

It's alright, I believe most media pundits predicted the Wings demise vs. the Flames as well.

Really? Were you reading the same TSN and CBS sites I was? Because I saw a great deal of confidence in the wings from all but Don Cherry (and that's because Detroit is in the US) and members of the Flames/Calgary media.

Here are some of my thoughts going into the series..

1. Big, Fast, 4 lines etc. etc....no one is talking about how good our D core has been on the STICKS of the opposing players. While SJ's brute size is intimidating, if we can be smart with our sticks defensively, it will neutralize alot of their skill. SJ fans please spare us the "we're gonna wear down Lidstrom with our hits" stuff...every playoff opponent for 12 years has said that. He avoids hits better than most...I trust that Lids and Markov will be just fine at the end of this series.

2. As ridiculous as it seems....Andreas Lilja is gonna have to be big in this series. We know that at times Schneider and pre-Moen fight Lilja gave the puck away like it was their job. Outside of Schneids' patented interference move, both were pretty solid in the last series. If they can still make the simple plays with the puck under pressure, I really think we'll win the series. Our forwards are so well positioned in the defensive zone that if the Dmen make high percentage plays we'll be able to break out more often than not and eliminate sustained pressure.

3. Neutral Zone turnovers cannot be a common occurance in this series. Giving SJ speed and numbers on the counter-attack is dangerous and catches our D out of position, neutralizing our biggest advantage against SJ forwards. Penalites and PPG will ensue...if we are responsible, cut down turnovers at both bluelines and make them attack with our D in position, we can limit chances.

4. Keep crashing the net, keep crashing the net, keep crashing the net...Nabokov let up some rebounds against Nashville that we need to capitalize on. Kiprusoff did a very good job of swallowing up most of the shots, but I think if we continue to attack the net with reckless abandon, we will find more success than we did in the last series.

5. The battle of the 4th lines...San Jose has a great core of top-end scorers and quality grinders who can play alot of minutes. Our guys have to continue to chip in on the 4th line and play the kind of defensive game that would cause Babcock to use them in OT...

6. Faceoffs...Often overlooked as a key to any game....we want the puck all the time. How can we get it? How can we short circuit SJ's cycling game? How can we generate sustained puck control that will inevitably lead to a scoring chance? Continue to win lots and lots of faceoffs.

7. I think Carle and Vlasic are good, solid D-men...but the more we move the puck around in the offensive zone...the more likely Dats or Z will make that game breaking play

8. Our Legion of Doom-Bring the physicality, and goal scoring and wear on San Jose's defenders....if their emphasis isn't on being hard on our sticks, than maybe we can wear down their guys. Hannan is quite good, but I've heard rumblings that he has declined from his 04 form...Craig Rivet is not a number 1 dman period.

9. Hasek-just do what you did in Games 5-6 of the Calgary series. You are going to see more shots and more chances, and you are still going to give up some goals that will make us cringe...but make those 2-3 huge saves like Phaneuf's one timer late in Game 6 and we'll be fine...

Wings utilize home-ice and defensively responsible stickworth to win a close Game 7

Yep, lots of talk about the Wings "skill level" before round one, but I read more people expecting the "typical" upset of the Wings.

Yes it is. Counting down the hours like never before. I'm jealous of you going to the game.

:P Don't be jealous of me, I'll be watching on my "puny" 36" dinosaur CRT Sony WEGA. :D

Even the AP gives us basically no chance:

Home ice might be the only advantage the Detroit Red Wings have over the San Jose Sharks in their second-round series.

Detroit bolstered its chances of avoiding another first-round exit in the playoffs by retooling its roster to add toughness, speed and depth. The Red Wings also played more physical in Mike Babcock's second season behind the bench.

The changes were effective enough to get past the Jarome Iginla-led Calgary Flames, but Sharks coach Ron Wilson wasn't impressed.

I read that article to. Good thing writers don't PLAY hockey so

they have no bearing on the game. :)

I meant I'm jealous of those lucky enough to be going to The Joe, but I didn't specify that.

Go Wings!! A little over three hours to go. Hurry up time!

Guest Tunbo Batman

annoying tidbit from last night's duck-canuck game: the announcers gushing over niedermeyer and pronger and wondering if there "ever had been two norris trophy winners on the same blueline for a team in the playoffs..." and then went on for about five minutes on having to look it up and speculating it never ever has happened before.

<_<

Bah, we have a pair of defencemen who have won a combined 4 Norris trophoes, so we're fine :P

They were just one round early...

can you guess what NHL team has been the most successful in the playoffs since 1995, with over a hundred wins?

HINT : NOT THE SHARKS.

Nick's won it four times and I think Cheli's won it three, so that's combined 7 Norris trophies on the Detroit blueline.
