nobody's coasting anywhere. its only halfway done dammit.

i think both DET and SJS are better teams anyway.

who knows? the DEVILS might win it all....they did it once, coming back from 3-1 in 2001.

I wouldn't say it's "fairly likely" at all. Anaheim doesn't scare me at all, unlike the Sharks. Anaheim has run through an amazing gauntlet of Vancouver and Minnesota. Woo, two crappy teams. We'll see how they fare when they play a top-tier team.

Anaheim Coasting to the Cup?

Thanks to Dallas and Vancouver's inability to play decent hockey (save for Turco and Luongo, respectively), and Minnesota not posing a challenge at all, Anaheim has pretty much coasted into the Western Conference Finals to pick up where they left off last year.

Now, because of the war between the Wings and Sharks and Sabres and Rangers, I have to ask:

How likely is it that Anaheim and Ottawa will meet in the Stanley Cup Finals?

I say fairly likely, and it is a definitely worst-case scenario for me as a hockey fan, and I'm sure the league would not approve, as the ratings will be extremely low.

Your opinion?

Not with 3 lines and 4 defencemen theyr'e not!

This is what is going to happen....... Wings win game 5 4-2, Flames win game 6 2-1, then game seven will go to 2 overtime periods before Lilja steals the puck from Thornton at center ice, skates in to dump the puck at the blue line and scores right above Nabbys should to win the series. Then we go on to dominate the Ducks. You all heard it here first

I think coasting to the cup is an overstatement, but they definitely have had the easiest path so far. Regardless, both San Jose and Detroit can take them out; I'm fairly confident in that.

So don't expect them to get 4 more. Or 3 more for that matter. They're at the end of the rope.

I firmly believe this Wings-Sharks series is essentially the WCF matchup; either team can and will beat the Ducks.

My feeling exactly. I know many of the Ducks fans are thinking, "Good, I hope they beat the hell out of each other, so that we can dominate a banged up teams, and coast some more into the SCF", but it's extremely wishful and deluded thinking on their parts. These are two powerful and battle tested teams, each with a dominating game of their own, who don't wear down easily, either of which can seriously give the Ducks the game they have yet to see.

Furthermore, out of all three teams still standing in the West, Anaheim is the least disciplined, especially when their own net is being repeatedly peppered or crashed. They just haven't gone up against a team with a serious enough offense to draw out the worst in them. The WCF will change all of that, regardless who they face. That will be fun to watch, because if anyone hasn't noticed yet, the refs aren't putting away their whistles for anyone. Discipline is still very much a deciding factor.

What OsGod said.

Sure, Anaheim's had it easy. They're resting on their laurels.

Whoever comes from our series has had to battle. They will be a ready, willing, and able to handle and adversary. Anyone knows that coming from adversary always kicks the crap out of coasting.

Unless, of course, they play San Jose.

Someone said it best, Anahiem will ussually beat SJ because they play the same as San Jose, except better.

I predict the Wings will win the SJ series and fight it out and win in 7 against the ducks.

Oh, Dom > Nabby, thats why.

When did the Flames make it to the 2nd round?

And when did Thorton get traded to the Flames?

You are right, I did hear it here first - whatever it is.:hehe:

yeah honestly it seems like no one has really challenged the ducky's at all...it was a breeze against the wild for them..the canucks i think could have put up a bigger fight than they did, it pisses me off that they've had it easy this playoff year...yeah i said it, EASY.

Living in So Cal, I've watched a few of the Ducks playoff games thus far and what they've really done is just flat out stop teams defensively. Save for game 4 against Minnesota, teams just aren't scoring against them. They did luck out in drawing Minnesota and then Vancouver because they were able to shut down those teams that already had trouble scoring goals. They'll get a much better test against either San Jose or the Wings. The advantages they have now are health and rest.

Anaheim may be coasting to the Western Conference Finals but not to the Cup. San Jose will be playing them in the WCF. The Sharks will rough em up and leave them behind in the west as the Sharks continue on to win the Cup.

This is a great post to read after a game 5 spanking.

Lets hold off on giving the Ducks the Cup until they face a team that has more than half a scoring line. Thats my big beef with Anaheim so far. Once they face a dynamic scoring team, then maybe theyll face a little more competition.

Not to mention, they havent had to play at a very high level to beat the past 2 teams. Its pretty hard to turn on the switch against SJ or Detroit who have just had to grind out the wins.

THAT is whats most comforting to me, and likely to the Wings too. San Jose has given Detroit the most trouble BAR NONE for the past two years. The San Jose matchup is the scariest for the Wings. If they can beat San Jose, they can beat anybody.

Not to sound like I'm getting ahead of myself, but could someone possibly pull up the results of the regular season Wings-Ducks matchups?

you are in fact getting ahead of yourself.

Hey Grypho, what ever happens, keep commin around here and posting! I love your posts. Anyway, your right. Not to look past you guys, but if the Wings win this series, it will be our retribution to beat the Ducks considering what happend in 2004. Who ever wins this series gets past the Ducks, the biggest problem for us is our M*A*S*H :angry:

The series was split 2-2.

EDIT: Detroit won 2-1 on Steve Yzerman jersey retirement night and 1-0 towards the end of the season. They lost 4-1 and 4-2 the other times.
